Job Description

Seeking an experienced API Gateway Engineer to design, build, secure, and operate API gateway platforms that support high-volume, business-critical services  ideal candidate brings deep expertise in API design, development, integration, and lifecycle management, with strong hands‑on experience delivering reliable and secure API connectivity across distributed systems.

This role focuses on implementing and managing API gateway capabilities including routing, transformation, policy enforcement, authentication and authorization, rate limiting, and traffic management. The candidate will work closely with application teams, platform engineers, and security partners to ensure APIs are scalable, observable, resilient, and secure by design.

Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting skills in complex, large‑scale environments, along with experience building automation and tooling in Python to support API onboarding, testing, deployment, and operational workflows. A solid understanding of observability and telemetry, including metrics, logging, and tracing, is essential for ensuring platform reliability and rapid issue resolution.

The ideal candidate has strong Java experience, particularly in API, gateway, or service‑oriented architectures, and is fluent in automated testing practices for validating API behavior, integrations, and performance across environments.

• 6+ years of overall software engineering or platform engineering experience
• 4+ years of hands‑on experience designing, developing, and supporting API platforms or API gateway‑based architectures
• Strong background in API design and development, including RESTful APIs, versioning strategies, error handling, and backward compatibility
• Proven experience implementing authentication and authorization mechanisms (e.g., OAuth2, JWT, mTLS, API keys)
• Extensive experience troubleshooting and resolving issues in large‑scale, distributed, production environments
• Proficiency in Java, particularly for API, gateway, or middleware development
• Strong development experience with Python for automation, scripting, and platform tooling
