Varsity Assistant Football Coach – Quarterback
Location: Shadow Mountain High School
Employment Type: Temporary, 1.0 FTE
Salary: $2,431.00
Season Dates: TBD

Purpose Statement
The job of Assistant Coach is to design and implement program activities in accordance with applicable rules and regulations related to the sport; provide supervision of student athletes during all aspects of participation; use sound instructional techniques; serve as a positive role model; and perform other related duties at the Varsity, JV/Frosh, or Junior High level.
Reports to Athletic Director.
Essential Functions- Assess student athletes and provide feedback on individual performance and/or determine team placement.
- Attend meetings, workshops, conferences, etc. to receive and convey information related to the role.
- Communicate with parents, students, officials, administrators, and community to provide information, assistance, and direction.
- Instruct student athletes to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, and sportsmanship.
- Maintain records (e.g., game/student athlete statistics, insurance, signed permission forms, emergency information, schedules, equipment inventories) to comply with district, athletic conference, and state requirements.
- Manage uniforms, equipment, and school facilities to maintain items responsibly and safely.
- Monitor student athletes’ academic eligibility to comply with AIA requirements and provide intervention for students needing assistance.
- Supervise student athletes during all participation areas to ensure activities are conducted in a minimal-risk environment.
- Teach sports techniques, rules, strategies, and tactics to prepare the team and athletes for competition.
Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS:

KNOWLEDGE:
Basic math, including fractions, percents, ratios; interpret highly technical information; write technical materials; speak persuasively; analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge: equipment, injury prevention, laws, codes, participant eligibility, attendance, discipline guidelines, public relations, professional standards, safety practices.
ABILITY:
Schedule activities, meetings, and events; gather and collate data; use equipment; work independently and with others; handle diverse individuals; problem‑solve; maintain confidentiality; meet deadlines; model sportsmanship; motivate athletes; enforce discipline; set priorities; work extended hours including evenings and weekends.
Work under limited supervision following standardized practices; direct others within a small work unit; utilize resources from other units as needed.
Work EnvironmentPhysical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; climbing; balancing; stooping, kneeling, crouching; fine finger dexterity. Requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing. Exposure to temperature extremes and risk of injury/illness.
