2025-26 Nutrition & Wellness Worker II – North Ranch Elementary School

Location: North Ranch Elementary School

Duration: 9 months, 7 hours/day, 7:00 am – 2:30 pm

Grade Level: Grade 14, $15.94/hour

Position Type: Non‑Interim

Start Date: 5/11/2026

Purpose Statement

The Nutrition & Wellness Worker II supports food service activities at the assigned school, directing food service personnel, producing food that meets the mandated nutritional needs of students, providing written support to convey information, and ensuring compliance with mandated health standards and the National School Lunch and Breakfast Programs.

Essential Functions
  • Monitor, clean and maintain all areas of the storage, food preparation and serving areas of the kitchen for safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Estimate food preparation amounts to meet projected meal requirements while minimizing waste.
  • Evaluate prepared food for flavor, appearance and temperature so that items are acceptable to students and staff.
  • Inspect food and supply deliveries for quantity, quality and specifications and ensure compliance with health requirements.
  • Stock, inventory and order food and supplies to satisfy projected menu requirements and maintain adequate inventory.
  • Manage assigned site operations to provide safe and efficient food services in compliance with nutritional menu requirements and health standards.
  • Supervise, train and evaluate Nutrition & Wellness substitutes in food preparation, serving and cleaning.
  • Attend department meetings, in‑service trainings, workshops and other professional development as required.
  • Reconcile transactions such as meal counts and monies collected to maintain accurate balances.
  • Maintain a variety of manual and electronic records (e.g., production reports, temperature logs, timesheets).
  • Use web‑based programs and other software related to the Nutrition & Wellness Department.
  • Respond to inquiries from students, staff and the public regarding food items and policies.
  • Screen free/reduced meal applications for accuracy before submitting to the Department.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • Adhere to safety practices and planning/management of projects.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records and operate standard food service equipment.
  • Use software applications essential to the role.
  • Basic math skills, including fractions, percentages and ratios.
  • Read and interpret technical information, compose documents and facilitate discussions.
  • Analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions.
  • Apply safety practices, quantify food preparation, sanitation procedures, and cooking methods.
  • Schedule activities, gather, collate and classify data; work with diverse groups and maintain rapport.
  • Problem‑solve independently and with equipment.
Responsibility

Work under limited supervision following standardized practices; direct other persons within a small work unit and utilize resources from other units as needed.

Work Environment

Requires significant lifting (up to 50 lb), carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. 10% sitting, 60% walking, 30% standing. Exposure to temperature extremes and potential injury. Must be able to lift 50 lb.

Experience

Job‑related experience with increasing levels of responsibility is required.

Education

High‑school diploma or equivalent.

Clearances & Certifications
  • Serv Safe Certificate (required).
  • Criminal background clearance.
  • Valid Arizona DPS Level I IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
