The University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix is seeking a vice chair of research in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology. This is an opportunity for an outstanding leader with a national/international reputation as a respected and accomplished academician, clinician, educator and collaborator with a proven track record in innovating research.
This position reports directly to the chair of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology within the College of Medicine – Phoenix for all academic activities. Consistent with the Academic Affiliation Agreement (AAA) between the University of Arizona and Banner Health, the vice chair will have a matrix reporting relationship to the CEO of Banner – University Medical Group (B–UMG) and CEO of Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (B–UMCP) for all clinical activities conducted at B–UMCP.
The vice chair will assist the department in developing a research vision and infrastructure, seeking grant and other funding opportunities, serving as a principal investigator, developing research plans and methods, implanting and managing research studies and disseminating research findings. In addition, this individual will be expected to develop collaborative relationships with other university, college, clinical and community partners.
The successful candidate will fulfill the responsibilities of a faculty member in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, actively participate in teaching, clinical service and/or scholarly work, and must qualify for an appointment at the rank of associate or full professor.
The successful candidate will meet the requirements of a career track faculty according to the College and University guidelines.

Duties & Responsibilities- Strategic Leadership. Establish departmental research priorities and a strategic plan aligned with institutional goals; maintain oversight of the research portfolio; and identify growth opportunities across clinical, translational, outcomes, quality and health services research.
- Research Team Leadership. Recruit, supervise and provide performance oversight for departmental research personnel—including the research director, research manager and clinical research coordinators—ensuring clear workflows, accountability and professional development.
- Resource Stewardship. Oversee equitable, mission-aligned allocation of research funds, personnel, protected time and statistical and data support, prioritizing projects of greatest scientific and institutional value.
- Regulatory Compliance. Ensure all research adheres to IRB, institutional, federal and sponsor requirements, and promote a culture of ethical research conduct.
- Faculty and Learner Development. Mentor faculty, residents, fellows and students; facilitate research teams and study design; and cultivate a culture in which research is accessible, mentored and valued.
- Scholarly Productivity. Drive timely, high-quality publication and presentation output, track scholarly products and direct the department's Annual Scholarly Day.
