Job DescriptionPosition Summary
Under general supervision, the Bus Driver safely operates a school bus to transport students to and from school and designated field trips and sports trips.
Job Responsibilities
- Conduct pre-trip bus inspections; checks tire, brakes, oil and other fluids for proper levels and function; checks emergency equipment and supplies.
- Drive bus along assigned route to pick up and drop off students at designated areas; transports students for field trips and sporting events; documents the number of students boarding and deboarding.
- Operate wheelchair lift; secure wheelchairs, car seats, and safety harnesses for special needs students.
- Keep logs of student conduct while aboard the bus; prepare incident reports and inform parents and appropriate parties as needed.
- Sweep and mop the floors of the bus; sanitize bus seats; clean windows.
- Conduct post-trip bus inspection; log mileage for the day.
- Participate in biannual school bus evacuation drills.
- Perform other duties as required or assigned.
- Operate a school bus along an assigned route, exposing to traffic hazards, various weather conditions, and potentially dangerous cleaning chemicals.
- Engage in extended year student bussing.
- Ability to work a split shift.
- Assist with maintenance/custodial tasks as needed:
- Move, lift, stock, stack materials, supplies and equipment.
- Support in deep cleaning of district sites.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Requirements
Knowledge of
:
- Applicable Federal, State, and local laws, codes, ordinances, and regulations.
- School bus safety policies, procedures, and practices.
- Basic first aid.
- Bus evacuation procedures.
- Local street names, highways, and geography.
Skill in
:
- Operating a school bus safely.
- Maintaining accurate records and logs.
- Identifying and mitigating traffic hazards.
- Preparing clear and concise reports.
- Interacting tactfully with District staff, students, and parents.
- Communicating effectively both verbally and in writing.
- Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.
- Customer Service principles, practices and etiquette.
Education and Experience
:
High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
PREFERRED:
Two (2) years of experience operating a commercial grade passenger vehicle (or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience).
Licenses, Certifications, and Equipment
:
PREFERRED: A valid Class B State driver’s license with Passenger and School Bus endorsement is required. (Training can be provided for those with class D state license)
Training Provided
:
- CPR and First Aid certified.
- Map 21 Training.
- Annual refresher courses.
- Physical agility.
- Other state required trainings.
NOTE:
- Must pass ADOT Physical and Drug Screen.
- Position requires obtaining an Arizona DPS level one Fingerprint Clearance Card. Assistance for fingerprinting will be provided at time of hire.
Position Type: Full-Time
Salary: $19.70 to $25.47 Per Hour
