Asphalt Distributor Drivers are responsible for safely and efficiently operating distributor and heavy equipment of various sizes used in road, site, or highway paving. These Drivers operate commercial motor vehicles over 26,001 lbs. or a truck‑trailer combination over 26,001 lbs. in compliance with federal, state and local laws. These Drivers work as part of a crew and at times may also operate equipment or provide general labor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Employee shall perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland’s Core Values at the forefront.
- Operate distributor truck in the loading and off‑loading of oil materials.
- Monitor various gauges during operation of the vehicle.
- Set spray bar on manual, automatic, or semi‑automatic distributors for applying liquid asphalt.
- Keep track of material on hand in storage tank and notify supervisor before additional product is required.
- Apply products according to job specifications and assure product quality to the best of driver’s ability.
- Clean asphalt out of tanks and from spray bars.
- Perform daily pre‑post trip inspection with appropriate documentation in compliance with DOT guidelines.
- Know, understand and comply with all Department of Transportation (Use the "Apply for this Job" box below). well as state and local regulations.
- Focus on public safety and operate vehicle in a safe and prudent manner at all times.
- Responsible for ensuring vehicle is road‑worthy prior to leaving the yard and/or jobsite and work directly with mechanics to guarantee any repairs needed are made to the vehicle prior to leaving the yard.
- Use the Company’s suggested method to compile, maintain and log driving hours as required by state, federal and local laws.
- May operate heavy equipment such as trucks, screeds, rollers, pavers, paving finishing machines, paving curbing machines and front‑end loaders to apply asphalt products according to job specifications.
- Must be an advocate of safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
- Actively participate in job-site and safety meetings and all Company related training.

- Follow direction of the Foreman and/or Superintendent with regards to daily production schedule and activities.
- Operate trucks to transport equipment to and from production sites as required and assist in the maintenance of all equipment.
- May set up and tear down equipment and assist with job-site clean‑up.
- May perform other related duties such as shovel work, raking, and other general laborer work as needed.

- This position is considered a safety‑sensitive position and is subject to the company’s drug and alcohol policy, as well as all OSHA regulations.
- All employees must wear the appropriate personal protective equipment and follow all safety guidelines at all times as an essential part of their job responsibilities.
- While working, the employee might be exposed to various chemicals, vapors, pollutants, gases, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines or mechanical parts, and dust/debris.
- Must be able to work outside, frequently and for long periods of time in all weather, including extreme hot and cold temperatures.
- Must be able to operate vehicles and trailers in a safe manner in compliance with local, state and federal traffic laws.
- Must operate equipment, machinery and other tools in compliance with safety guidelines and manufacturer specifications.
