Position: CDL Truck Driver Residential Benefits Day 1

Job Summary

Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end load lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to disposal, transfer, or recycle facilities when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers provide pick‑up service for containers filled with waste or recyclable material, often weighing over 1,000 pounds, and must maneuver wheeled containers to a pick‑up stage area.

They navigate high‑traffic, congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, using highly skilled backing maneuvers. Residential Drivers collect residential household waste or recyclable material and safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments with the same navigation skill set. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, and high‑traffic roadways and may operate in tight overhead environments while on industrial routes.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT, and local, state, and federal laws.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections and document checks using the standard DVIR.
  • Report unsafe situations or service‑related issues immediately to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
  • Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
  • Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions such as closed or impassable streets, alleyways, heavy receptacles, or safety hazards.
  • Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
  • Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
  • Follow route assignments and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch, and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • One year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL, or one year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to work where the position is located.
  • Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
  • Successfully complete pre‑employment screening, including drug screen and physical exam.
  • Commercial Driver License (CDL) Class A with an air‑brake endorsement or Class B with an air‑brake endorsement.
