You will report to the Supply Chain Service Manager and oversee the safe, efficient execution of 20,000+ annual shipments across multiple transportation modes. The role is accountable for meeting delivery requirements while managing over $20M in annual truck spend. You will also lead and develop a team of Delivery Specialists supporting Tessenderlo Kerley’s business units.
What we need from you:
- Develop and maintain a reliable, cost-efficient, and safety-focused carrier network to support ongoing and future logistics needs.
- Coordinate daily communication with plants, terminals, inventory control, and customer service to ensure accurate and timely delivery execution.
- Partner with supply chain and business units to confirm inventory availability and align transportation with operational demand.
- Ensure compliance with all safety policies, DOT and government (49 CFR) regulations, and company requirements, including proper documentation.
- Supervise and support Delivery Specialists, driving cost reduction initiatives while maintaining high service levels.
- Oversee dispatch, load scheduling, and rate negotiation to optimize transportation efficiency and cost performance.
- Collaborate with IT and external vendors to enhance logistics systems, tools, and operational visibility.
- Reinforce a strong safety culture in partnership with HS&E across all logistics activities.
- Manage carrier relationships, including performance monitoring, issue resolution, and annual service reviews.
- Deliver responsive, high-quality service by addressing transportation inquiries and resolving issues in a timely manner.
- Support sustainability goals by improving transportation efficiency and reducing environmental impact.
- Implement standardized processes for effective issue resolution and customer satisfaction.
- Utilize data and metrics to optimize fleet utilization and third-party carrier selection based on cost and service.
- Establish and track KPIs to ensure consistent execution, productivity, and on-time performance.
- Evaluate operational challenges, analyze data, and implement practical solutions to improve performance.
- Assist in developing training and cross-training programs to strengthen team capability and ensure coverage.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical business experience
- Working knowledge of DOT and government regulations (CFR 49) and NMFC standards
- 10+ years of transportation experience; liquid bulk preferred
- Leads by example in day-to-day operations while consistently performing under pressure
- Trains, coaches, and develops team members across varying skill levels
- Strong communication, listening, and negotiation skills with carriers, vendors, and internal teams
- Analyzes supply chain operations and drives practical, continuous improvements
- Sets high performance standards and ensures consistent execution across the team
- Promotes accountability and ownership to meet service, safety, and cost targets
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel for operational tracking and reporting
