Heavy Haul Transport Driver

Sunland Asphalt, LLC. is seeking an experienced Haul Truck, Transport Driver to join our booming business. Work is primarily office-based with periodic visits to field environments. The Heavy Haul Transport Driver must hold a valid CDL driver license. Drivers work as part of a crew and may also operate equipment or provide general labor.

Essential Duties
  • Perform all duties and responsibilities with Sunland's Core Values at the forefront.
  • Work quickly, productively and safely to meet production goals as outlined by the foreman, superintendent and/or production manager.
  • Safely load and unload Sunland owned equipment such as pavers, milling machines, compactors, scrapers, motor graders, loaders, skid steers, skip loaders, etc.
  • Know, understand and comply with all DOT, state and local regulations.
  • Ensure vehicle is road‑worthy prior to leaving the yard or jobsite and work with mechanics to guarantee any repairs are made before departure.
  • Inspect truck and trailer before and after trips, complete DVIRs, and ensure compliance with state, federal and local laws.
  • Compile, maintain and log driving hours as required by state, federal and local laws.
  • Advocate of safety and follow safety policies and procedures.
  • Participate in job‑site and safety meetings and all company training.
  • Communicate with dispatcher, on‑site foreman, paver operators, truck drivers and general laborers.
  • Operate trucks to transport equipment to and from production sites as required and assist in the maintenance of all equipment.
  • Inspect, clean and maintain equipment and machinery.
  • Set up and tear down equipment.
  • Maintain a clean job site; pick up all tools, equipment, and secure job site each day.
  • Serve as front‑line company representative and provide excellent service to the customer and the public.
  • Use equipment and/or hand tools such as rakes, shovels, wheel barrels, etc.
  • Perform all other general labor duties as needed.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
  • Operate at professional construction field sites and/or construction shop environments; communicate verbally and in person or by phone, read printed materials, signs, computer screens and directions; maintain attention despite interruptions.
  • Lift, push, pull, carry, handle or feel objects weighing up to 50 pounds, reach with hands and arms; climb stairs and/or ladders; balance, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift overhead, traverse sites.
  • Work on project sites and operate vehicles, trailers, machinery, equipment and other tools within safety guidelines.
  • Work outside for long periods in all weather, including extreme heat and cold.
  • Potential exposure to chemicals, vapors, pollutants, viruses, uneven surfaces, loud noises, moving vehicles or machines, dust and debris.
Position Type / Expected Hours
  • Full‑time position; occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
  • Willing to travel to all job sites, including staying away from home if necessary.
Qualifications
  • A high school diploma or GED is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a lowboy transporter of oversized/overweight loads.
  • Fluent in English (speak, read, write).
  • A valid Class A, CDL license in the state where the majority of work is performed.
  • A Hazmat or tanker endorsement may be required depending on position.
  • Pass DOT physical and maintain a current medical card.
