The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong knowledge of underground utility construction, crew management, equipment coordination, and site safety practices.
Key Responsibilities- Supervise and lead pipe and utility crews on excavation and underground utility projects
- Coordinate daily work activities with Superintendents, Project Managers, and other field personnel
- Read and interpret blueprints, utility plans, grades, and specifications
- Ensure proper installation of:
- Storm sewer systems
- Sanitary sewer systems
- Water mains
- Drainage structures
- Underground utility systems
- Monitor trench safety, shoring, and OSHA compliance requirements
- Coordinate equipment, materials, subcontractors, and manpower needs
- Perform daily jobsite planning and communicate production goals to crews
- Ensure all work is completed to company quality standards and project specifications
- Track daily production, manpower, and material usage
- Identify and resolve field issues proactively
- Conduct daily safety meetings and enforce company safety policies
- Maintain professional communication with inspectors, customers, subcontractors, and internal teams
- Assist with scheduling and sequencing of work to maintain project timelines
- Train and mentor crew members and equipment operators
- 5+ years of experience in underground utility, pipe, or excavation construction
- Previous foreman or crew leadership experience preferred
- Strong understanding of excavation, grading, and utility installation practices
- Ability to read construction drawings and grade stakes
- Knowledge of OSHA trench safety regulations
- Experience operating or working around heavy equipment
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced construction environment
- Valid driver’s license required
- CDL preferred but not required
- Bilingual in Spanish and English is desirable
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work around heavy equipment and active construction zones
