Founding Forward is a national 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to informing and engaging citizens through transformational educational experiences grounded in American history. These experiences empower students, educators, and communities to understand, appreciate, and practice the principles, rights, and responsibilities of American citizenship. Founding Forward operates from two main locations: the Sir John Templeton Heritage Center, a research, exhibit, and programming space at The Union League of Philadelphia, and a 75-acre educational campus in Valley Forge, PA.
Position Summary:The Volunteer Coordinator builds and coordinates a welcoming, organized volunteer program that connects people – particularly League members – with meaningful opportunities to support Founding Forward. This role manages the program, but not the volunteer activities themselves; coordination will be critical with all levels of Founding Forward staff, as well as the Membership and Executive staff of the Union League.
Primary Responsibilities:- Coordinate the implementation of integrated marketing campaigns across departments.
- Maintain production schedules, deadlines, and communication between project stakeholders.
- Maintain a centralized volunteer program, database, communications process, and opportunity calendar.
- Recruit, onboard, schedule, and support volunteers in partnership with the departments where the service is occurring.
- Coordinate docent volunteers administratively while Historic Engagement directs their historical content, training, standards, and tour responsibilities.
- Develop volunteer orientation, recognition, feedback, and retention practices.
- Help departments define appropriate volunteer roles and ensure volunteers receive clear expectations and support.
- Support committee participation systems where volunteer and committee administration intersect.
- Must have an interest in civic education and a commitment to Founding Forward’s mission.
- Experience working with/managing volunteers and ideally managing a volunteer program.
- Excellent organizational skills and keen attention to detail
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently
- Knowledge of Sales Force and/or Donor Perfect ideal.
- Must hold or be able to complete clearances for working with youth and have an active driver’s license.
- Growing and reliable volunteer participation.
- Positive volunteer experience and retention.
- Strong coordination with host departments.
- Accurate volunteer records and communication.
