Wastewater Treatment Mechanic/Relief Operator

Maintain the proper functioning of the Wastewater Treatment Plant by relieving operators on shift work rotation and performing routine maintenance work on all plant equipment.

• Perform daily inspection of pump stations including greasing pumps, washing down wet wells, and cleaning rakes and troughs
• Collect samples, perform necessary lab tests, and record results
• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on all plant equipment including pumps, blowers, filters, heaters, compressors, lab ovens, flow meters, etc
• Diagnose and correct problems in control panels and bubbler warning systems
• Perform fabrication work such as cutting, forming, drilling, welding, and brazing of parts
• Perform building and groundskeeping maintenance as necessary
• Operate vehicles and equipment such as frontend loaders, forklifts, riding mowers, power saws, and drill press
• Ability to perform tasks requiring mechanical aptitude
• Adhere to all rules, regulations, and procedures of the Borough of Phoenixville
• Perform other duties as assigned

• Must have thorough knowledge of wastewater treatment principles, processes and plant operations

• Must have knowledge of the methods, materials, tools and standard practices utilized in the repair and maintenance of the wastewater plant equipment and machinery

• Must possess skill in the use and care of machinery and equipment used in all phases of the operation

• Must have the ability to meet approved physical standards

• Possession of a valid Pennsylvania driver’s license

• Must possess and maintain a valid wastewater treatment operator’s license issued by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Class B, E Subclass 1,2,3,4 in the time specified by the Commonwealth to qualify for the certification exam, from the time of hire
