Assistant HS Boys' Tennis Coach Performance Responsibilities
- Assist the Head Tennis Coach with the Program.
- Assist with developing, monitoring, supervising, and training beginners and advanced student-athletes to compete in Tennis.
- Motivate and mentor student-athletes both on and off of the Field.
- Commit to building relationships and have a willingness to coach and mentor student-athletes academically and athletically.
- Instruct student-athletes in fundamental skills, strategies, and physical training necessary for them to realize a degree of individual and team success.
- Guide student-athletes to formulate and enhance moral values, pride of accomplishment, acceptable social behavior, self‑discipline, self‑confidence, and good sportsmanship.
- Ensure the safety and well‑being of student‑athletes.
- Foster teamwork, sportsmanship, and skills development.
- Cooperate in a timely manner with the School Athletic Office and the District Athletic Department regarding requests for pertinent information that may be periodically required.
- Meet all requirements set forth by the District Board of Education, the Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic Association (PIAA), and the Pennsylvania Department of Education.
- Model expected behavior: timeliness to practices, positivity, enthusiasm, respect, constructive criticism, and adherence to program disciplines.
- Maintain suitable sideline conduct, including appropriate language, at all times.
- Be dressed appropriately at all practices and games.
- Provide in‑season training rules and any applicable out‑of‑season conduct rules in writing prior to the start of the season; follow due‑process procedures when violations occur.
- Follow the District Athletic Department Policy as outlined in the Coaches Handbook and meet all criteria outlined in the job description.
- Recognize and implement all applicable administrative policies set by the District Board of Education, Superintendent of Schools, School Principals, Conference Leagues, and PIAA.
- Assist with scheduling and completing a full season of contests including State‑tournament games.
- Assist with pre‑season practices on the first day permitted for the sport per PIAA rules and regulations.
- Participate in clinics and other programs to improve coaching performance.
- Participate in school events (e.g., Awards Night, Athletic Boosters Meetings).
- Show physical vitality, enthusiasm for the sport, and good judgment in decision‑making.
- Accept and profit from constructive criticism and suggestions for improving coaching performance.
- Demonstrate competence in techniques of the sport with players responding positively to directions given.
- Adapt properly to changing game situations.
- Be well‑versed and knowledgeable in matters pertaining to the sport and continually seek to improve knowledge and coaching techniques.
- Innovate by using new coaching techniques and ideas alongside proven methods.
- Ensure the team is well prepared for opponents.
- Motivate the team to meet/exceed goals and stress the value of acceptable behavior from each student‑athlete.
- Assist with maintenance and inventory of equipment and supplies.
- Ability to motivate and inspire others.
- Ability to serve as a positive role model.
- Demonstrate knowledge of skills associated with this activity.
- Ability to work effectively in a multicultural environment.
- Successful participation in a similar activity in high school and/or college. Evidence of successful past coaching experience at the high school or college level is preferred.
- Provide satisfactory results on a State Police Records Check, Child Abuse Check, and FBI Fingerprint Background Check.
