    Job Details

  • The RN performs under the direct supervision of the Director and is delegated an assignment by the charge nurse to achieve quality patient care.
  • Implements the nursing process including assessment, planning, intervention, and evaluation in collaboration with the unit charge nurse.
  • Responsible to the unit Director for patient care and accountable to the Director of Nursing.
  • Provides care appropriate to the age of patients served, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development principles.
  • Documents all care and pertinent information in the Medical Record to ensure continuity of care.
  • Demonstrates technical aptitude with labor & delivery equipment including fetal monitors, telemetry fetal monitoring, fetal scalp electrodes, intrauterine pressure catheter, epidural pumps, radiant warmers, delivery lights, and patient IV infusion pumps.
  • Applies critical thinking skills in emergent situations recognizing maternal and fetal complications during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
  • Anticipates needs of physicians and anesthesia to expedite emergencies.
  • Assists with vacuum extractor or forceps and safely positions laboring patients.
  • Recognizes and intervenes in delivery complications such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis.
  • Performs safe practices related to mother/infant care and emergency interventions for compromised newborns.
  • Educates on the ten steps to successful breastfeeding.
  • Communicates effectively and sensitively with patients, families, and visitors of all age groups.
  • Builds respectful relationships with healthcare professionals and other agencies.

    Job Requirements

  • Graduate of a recognized and accredited Registered Nurse program.
  • Licensed RN able to practice in the State of Mississippi.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification required.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification required.
  • Neonatal Resuscitation certification required.
  • S.T.A.B.L.E certification required.
  • Fetal Heart Monitor Course certification required.
  • Two years of nursing experience required.

    Schedule Information

  • Night shift.
  • 12-hour shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.
  • 36 to 48 hours rotation or straight 48 hours per week.
  • Every other weekend required.

    Unit Specific Information

  • Labor and Delivery unit.
  • Experience with labor and delivery equipment including fetal monitors, telemetry fetal monitoring, fetal scalp electrodes, intrauterine pressure catheter, epidural pumps, radiant warmers, delivery lights, and patient IV infusion pumps.
  • Ability to recognize and intervene in maternal and fetal complications during antepartum, intrapartum, and postpartum periods.
  • Assists with vacuum extractor or forceps during delivery.
  • Safe positioning of laboring patients and use of leg stirrups during vaginal delivery.
  • Handles emergencies such as shoulder dystocia, hemorrhage, and hypertensive crisis.
  • Provides care for mother/infant couplet and emergency interventions for compromised newborns.
  • Educates on breastfeeding and practices cultural sensitivity.

    Additional Details

  • Must be able to lift, handle, push, and pull up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrates positive attitude, personal initiative, and motivation to achieve department goals.
  • Adheres to organizational values including safety and compliance standards.
  • Participates in all competencies planned for the job role before deadlines.
  • Complies with departmental and facility policies and employee handbook.
  • Uses department communication app appropriately.
  • Maintains professional appearance including natural or neutral hair colors.
  • Experience with Epic EMR and Kronos timekeeping system.
  • Scrubs color:
    Galaxy Blue.
  • Level 1 unit with 10-17 deliveries per month.
  • Overtime modifier of 1.2x applies to these roles only.
