Job Description & How to Apply Below

Sycamore Creek Church is a non‑denominational church located in Pickerington, Ohio, a growing suburb on the southeast side of Columbus. The church is led by Senior Pastor Steve Markle and currently sees around 600 in weekly attendance. Sycamore Creek offers two Sunday morning services at 9:30 a and 11:00 a and is supported by a close‑knit, high‑trust staff that values initiative, ownership, and the freedom to lead well.

Sycamore Creek is highly relational yet program driven, with a deep commitment to discipleship that is both wide and deep. The church operates within a complementarian framework, holds a high view of Scripture, and prioritizes authentic community and strong teaching. Student ministry is viewed as a vital extension of that mission, and the church is eager to rebuild and grow it into a healthy, thriving environment in this next season.

The church is seeking the right candidate to step in as the new Student Pastor and lead the entire student ministry through a season of rebuilding and growth. The right candidate for this role will have a deep personal life in Christ and the character and capacity that align with the church's overall mission and vision.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Lead The Well, the weekly program for 7th through 12th grade, by writing and teaching original content, overseeing the student worship team alongside the Worship Pastor, resourcing small group leaders, and creating engaging big group games.
  • Lead Diversion, the Sunday morning service for 5th and 6th grade, by resourcing and scheduling the volunteers who teach and run the ministry month to month.
  • Develop and manage the Fight Club discipleship program and a student leadership team of spiritually mature upper classmen, while building personal relationships with students.
  • Organize and lead an annual retreat and summer camp, along with a few annual events that draw in outside students and create a fun, safe environment.
  • Recruit, onboard, train, and pour into the adult volunteer team, and create structured times of appreciation for those serving.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and students on a weekly basis and keep the church as a whole in the loop on student ministry.
  • Provide biblical counseling to students, manage the student ministry budget with accountability, and preach in main worship services as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • Demonstrates a mature and growing relationship with Jesus Christ, modeling spiritual leadership, consistency, and integrity in both personal life and ministry.
  • Fully aligns with Sycamore Creek's theology and complementarian framework and can clearly teach within those convictions.
  • A relational magnet and leader of leaders who can rally a team, support and develop adult leaders, and rebuild a healthy student ministry culture.
  • A strong, engaging communicator who can teach Scripture clearly and connect with students in a meaningful, applicable way.
  • Creative and vision oriented, able to dream up fresh ideas, cast vision, and keep the student environment engaging and continually improving.
  • A self‑starter who takes initiative, owns the ministry, and moves things forward without needing constant direction.
  • Relationally strong with high emotional intelligence, able to build trust with students, parents, and volunteers, and humble, coachable, and team oriented.
  • Education:
    • A bachelor's degree is preferred, though not required.
  • Experience:
    • Hands on experience leading student ministry in some capacity is ideal; strong internship, residency, or volunteer leadership experience at minimum is preferred.
