Job Summary

A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller you are an integral member of the bookselling team. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way, answer questions, and consistently go out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. You help maintain an attractive presentation of the store, unpack and shelve deliveries, tidy displays, and work the registers efficiently and professionally.

Part‑Time

• Maintain reliable and punctual attendance for scheduled shifts.
• Fill scheduling gaps when possible, being flexible and responsive to the store’s needs, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and most holidays.
• Approach work with a positive, energetic attitude and work hard and reliably to perform assigned tasks.
• Support and show kindness to colleagues, helping others on the team when needed.
• Always greet customers cheerfully and go out of your way to help them.
• Show aptitude and willingness to learn new skills and acquire new knowledge in the store.
• Enjoy being a bookseller.

• Use varied technology, including registers, computers, tablets, and other tools comfortably and efficiently.
• Develop strong merchandising skills to maintain the book presentation and store cleanliness.
• Apply effective visual merchandising skills to maintain the presentation of gifting, toys, and other product categories.
• Run a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
• Support the receiving and unpacking of deliveries, and the efficient and accurate shelving that follows.
• Find books and other products with ease and accuracy using own knowledge, colleague knowledge, Book Master, and other tools.
• Support the café team when needed.
• Understand loss prevention procedures and de‑escalation techniques, identify theft, spot problematic behavior, and seek support as required.

All this work requires physical activity, including prolonged standing, repetitive bending, lifting, and walking. You may work in other stores in the cluster if needed.

• Build book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s categories.
• Maintain sections and present books in an interesting and attractive manner.
• Make effective book recommendations to customers across varied sections.
• Sell books in a positive way to support monthly picks, book of the year, membership, pre‑orders, etc.
• Develop expertise in educational toys, games, hobby and collectibles, music and movies, newsstand, and new areas throughout the store.
• Use knowledge to support key sales objectives and product launches.

Benefits vary by scheduled hours:
