Production Supervisor (2nd Shift)
Department: Production
Reports To: Plant Superintendent
FLSA Status: Exempt
SUMMARYThe Production Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and coordination of activities of production workers for assigned work shifts. The role plans, coordinates, and schedules tasks and operations to ensure the production of displays, packaging, and industrial boxes meets safety and quality standards in a timely fashion.
JOB FUNCTION / PURPOSE- Provides hands‑on leadership, organizes, and directs manufacturing and maintenance operations to achieve maximum return on assets.
- Drives a culture of accountability and safety through clearly stated goals and objectives. Manages performance metrics such as OEE, throughput, and waste analysis.
- Works in accordance with the labor agreement while upholding management’s rights.
- Collaborates with HR and department managers on union grievances, employee discipline, and workforce issues.
- Tracks, reports, and addresses employee attendance and tardiness in partnership with HR.
- Manages all activities related to a production shift to maximize productivity and minimize cost while maintaining safety and quality.
- Prioritizes and completes tasks and projects with organizational skill and effectiveness.
- Coordinates with Scheduler and Shipping to meet daily production requirements.
- Conducts supervisory duties including interviewing, hiring, training, performance appraisal, rewarding, disciplining, and problem resolution.
- Collects and reports all production data correctly on a daily basis.
- Implements safety programs, enforces policies, and provides training on safe practices for all employees.
- Promotes continual improvement of productivity standards and worker safety performance.
- Participates in monthly Continuous Improvement Process (CIP) meetings with Quality and Maintenance teams.
- Requests additional temporary personnel through HR/Temp agency.
- Leads production meetings with supervisors and leads on new projects.
- Improves safety record by addressing physical safety issues and conducting safety tailgate meetings and pre‑shift stretches.
- Participates in assembly of First Article when required.
- Provides training to leads, unionized workers, and temps.
- Analyzes production line flow and conducts effective 5Y root cause analysis when needed.
- Monitors Amtec transactions related to production (materials movement, consumption, staging, and reconciliation).
- Evaluates project costs during and after runs, providing feedback for improvement.
- Ensures supplies and equipment are available for maximum efficiency.
- Demonstrates troubleshooting and problem‑solving skills, implementing preventive measures.
- Monitors work in progress for safety, quality, and adherence to specifications.
- Collaborates with Maintenance to ensure machines are properly maintained and preventive maintenance is followed.
- Inspects machine centers for excessive waste.
- Checks work areas to ensure housekeeping procedures are followed, maintaining and improving housekeeping via 5S & 7S, POUT, information boards, and cleaning stations.
- Performs additional duties as requested.
- HS Diploma or GED Equivalent required; completion of two years college or more is a plus.
- 2–3 years in manufacturing environment in a supervisory capacity.
- Ability to read and use a tape measure referencing both millimeters and inches.
- Corrugated manufacturing experience is required; job‑shop experience is a plus.
- Valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Ability to work extended hours or different shifts as required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Bilingual in Spanish/English required.
- Experience with Continuous Improvement, Six Sigma, and Lean Manufacturing.
- High energy level and detail orientation.
- Ability to multi‑task, problem‑solve, and prioritize in a fast‑paced, changing environment.
- Strong leadership, team building, organizational, and planning abilities.
