Maintenance Technician

Plaza de la Raza Child Development Services, Inc. (Plaza) is a comprehensive early childhood education program with a focus on school readiness for children zero to five years of age. Developmentally appropriate services are provided for children from low-income families, zero to five years of age. Plaza de la Raza currently serves over 650 children and their families.

The Maintenance Supervisor provides general direction and supervision.

Inspect, repair, fabricate, install, service, and maintain equipment and buildings.

Track and complete all work orders generated by staff or through site monitoring within timelines required for compliance with federal, state, local and grantee timelines.

Assess and analyze repair needs and determine the appropriate course for completion.

Completes repair work and/or minor renovations, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, painting, and mechanical facility needs to ensure safe environments for children and staff.

Perform a variety of carpentry duties: construct, fabricate, install, repair, or replace doors, walls, signs, desks, counters, shelves, shelf units, computer tables, cabinets, chairs, benches, tables, and stairways.

Perform a variety of painting duties, prepare, and finish various surfaces for painting, glaze windows, paint walls, doors, rooms, buildings, and other surfaces as requested and/or required.

Perform a variety of electrical duties; install, adjust, repair, or replace intercoms, public address systems, emergency lighting systems, clock systems, two-way radios, telephones, electronic motors, and ballasts.

Install electrical wiring, fixtures, conduit, switches and breakers and electrical timing systems.

Perform a variety of heating and cooling systems maintenance duties, inspect, maintain, and service air conditioning and heating units, clean and change filters, cooling coils and blower wheels and compartments, change motors, replace bearings and other work parts, check wiring, belts, bearings, alignment, amperage, and voltage and make necessary repairs, replacements, or adjustments.

Perform a variety of locksmith duties; install, repair, and replace locks on doors, desks, vehicles, lockers, and safes; duplicate keys; change lock combinations.

Recommend and implement appropriate methods and procedures to ensure security.

Perform general facility maintenance including plumbing repairs, pipe cutting/threading, fixture and water heater installation, drain cleaning, and unclogging sinks/toilets.

Inspect, maintain, and repair roofs, gutters, downspouts, vent caps, fan screens, and minor roof leaks.

Respond to emergency maintenance calls, complete assigned work orders, and assess repair or outsourcing needs.

Maintain building appearance and cleanliness including lighting replacement, trash removal, supply restocking, graffiti removal, and reporting hazardous conditions.

Maintain landscaping and irrigation systems including trimming, weed removal, sprinkler checks, and minor repairs.

Operate maintenance equipment and power tools include pressure washers, lawn equipment, trimmers, chainsaws, and blowers.

Assist with furniture/equipment moving, room setup, and other facility support duties as assigned.

Operate and maintain company vehicles including inspections, fueling, and cleaning.

Knowledge of common repair and maintenance practices and procedures to ensure environments are safe and secure for staff and children. Operate a variety of maintenance equipment and tools.

Monitor learning environments to ensure a pro-active approach to maintenance and perform preventative monitoring, accurate tracking of work orders; promote a healthy and clean environment for staff, parents, and children, ability to learn state and federal requirements and standards regarding licensed childcare facilities, demonstrate respect for individuals and groups with varied cultural, racial ethnic, religious, and linguistic identities and backgrounds, observe vehicle codes and follow defensive driving practices.

High School diploma or GED equivalent. Successful completion of specific vocational training in trades relation to the position assignment.
