The City of Piedmont is recruiting for an experienced Permit Technician for one current vacancy. This journey-level classification is responsible for reviewing plans and specifications for commercial and residential building permit applications. The work requires application and interpretation of policies, procedures, and regulations, and involves frequent contact with the public. Employees at this level are trained in all City procedures related to the assigned area(s) of responsibility, working with a high degree of independent judgment, and initiative.
The Permit Technician will serve the public at the front counter, over the phone and through email communication and provide information regarding permits and building code requirements. The nature of the tasks requires good public relations skills and the ability to handle a range of topics with customers. The position will perform routine tasks associated with the receipt, review and tracking of building permit applications through the permit process to ensure efficiency and compliance with department policies and procedures.
Education and Experience:Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth (12th) grade and two (2) years experience equivalent to a permit technician in a public agency, including a high level of public contact and customer service. Technical office experience in the building and construction trade, including architecture and engineering may be substituted for experience.
Licenses andCertifications:
Possession of an International Code Council (ICC) certification as Permit Technician is desirable.
Candidates under final consideration for employment with the City should expect to undergo an employment reference/background check that may include, but is not limited to: employment history, confirmation of educational credentials and degrees, licenses including driver's license, registrations, certificates, and other credentials as part of the appointment process. All positions require a review of Summary Criminal History obtained from the State Department of Justice through Live Scan Fingerprinting.
