Job Purpose and Summary

In Retail locations, Pharmacy Technicians play a critical role in supporting the pharmacy team to deliver on our brand promise. Technicians help ensure pharmacy operations run smoothly, prescriptions are filled promptly, safely, and accurately, and we provide caring service that exceeds patient expectations. They operate as part of the pharmacy team through adherence to Standard Operating Procedures, best practices, and effective communication.

Technicians are required to complete a rigorous company training program and satisfy all registration, licensing, and certification requirements according to their State’s Board of Pharmacy guidelines. Duties may be restricted until all requirements are met by the Pharmacy Manager.

Responsibilities
  • Live our purpose by following all company SOPs at each workstation to help Pharmacists manage and improve patient health.
  • Follow pharmacy workflow procedures at each workstation (production, pick-up, drive-thru, drop-off) for safe and accurate prescription fulfillment.
  • Contribute to positive patient experiences by showing empathy and genuine care at pick-up, drive-thru, and over the phone; offer immunizations and other services; and resolve or escalate patient problems.
  • Complete basic inventory activities as permitted by law and directed by pharmacy leadership (e.g., stocking, cycle counts, returns-to-stocks, and related tasks).
  • Contribute to a high-performing team, embrace a growth mindset, seek opportunities to expand clinical and technical knowledge, and support patient care.
  • Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs; travel to other stores in the market as needed.
  • Understand and comply with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and CVS policies to ensure patient safety and privacy; preserve compliance with controlled substance dispensing and recordkeeping requirements.
  • Deliver additional patient health care services where allowable by law and supported by training and certification (e.g., immunizations, point-of-care testing, offsite clinics).
Immunization Support (Where Permissible)
  • Complete additional licensure and training to obtain Technician Immunizer status for preparing and administering vaccines.
  • Educate patients about vaccines and refer questions to the Pharmacist on duty.
  • Monitor for adverse reactions and report events as required by public health requirements.
  • Review and collect patient information; track and document as applicable.
  • Monitor and manage vaccine supplies.
Required Qualifications
  • Must comply with state board of pharmacy requirements or laws governing the practice of pharmacy, including but not limited to age, education, and licensure/certification.
  • If the state board does not mandate a minimum age, must be at least 16 years old.
  • If the state board does not mandate a minimum educational requirement, must have a high school diploma or equivalent or be actively enrolled.
  • State-level licensure and national certification requirements vary by state.
