This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of various types of heavy equipment in a crushed stone or sand and gravel quarry environment. The Multi‑Skilled Equipment Operator will demonstrate proficiency in operating loaders, excavators, haul trucks, and other equipment as needed to support quarry operations and achieve production goals.
What You’ll Do- Maintain precise control of each piece of equipment, adapting to varying terrain and weather conditions.
- Perform pre‑and post‑trip inspections of all equipment operated, reporting any maintenance needs or safety concerns.
- Perform a wider range of equipment operation tasks with increased independence.
- Contribute to production goals and efficiency improvements.
- Takes initiative to identify and address potential safety hazards.
- Expand skills and knowledge by cross‑training on different equipment types.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Must be willing to work overtime and travel to different operations depending on company demands.
- Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
- Physical ability to operate heavy machinery for extended periods.
- Equipment Operation – Proficiency in operating large loaders with ability to accurately and smoothly maneuver and complete various tasks, such as loading, dumping, and transporting materials. Skill in handling attachments and understanding their applications.
- Safety Awareness – Ability to recognize, understand, and adhere to safety protocols and procedures in the workplace; proactive in identifying potential hazards, taking steps to mitigate risks, and ensuring that both personal and collective safety are maintained in all tasks and environments.
- Technical Expertise – Solid mechanical understanding of mobile equipment, including basic maintenance checks and troubleshooting minor issues. Ability to identify signs of equipment malfunction, understand and report them to the maintenance team.
- Problem Solving – Identify, analyze, and resolve work‑related issues efficiently and effectively using practical knowledge, experience, and hands‑on skills. Finds practical solutions, implements fixes, and adapts to unexpected challenges.
- Teamwork – Ability to effectively work as a part of a team, coordinating with other operators, dispatch/scale house and ground personnel.
- Adaptability – Adapts to new conditions, is flexible and open‑minded when facing challenges, and maintains high performance during change.
- High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
- Trade school diploma or certificate in equipment operation is highly desired.
- 2 (two) to 4 (four) years of experience operating heavy equipment in a quarry or similar environment.
- Demonstrates proficiency in operating at least two or more different types of heavy equipment.
- Growing understanding of quarry operations, material handling, and different equipment applications.
- Proven experience operating various types of heavy equipment.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols and MSHA regulations.
- Ability to operate heavy machinery safely and efficiently in challenging terrain.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
