This is a full-time position with the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission. For more information on the South Dakota PUC, please visit puc.sd.gov.

This position is not remote and requires regular in‑office work in Pierre, South Dakota.

The position is responsible for scheduling commission proceedings, meetings and events; preparing logistics for certain meetings such as securing and setting up location and coordinating among participants;

maintaining a comprehensive commission calendar; compiling bi-weekly commission meeting agendas; coordinating commissioner travel arrangements; monitoring and tracking legislation; processing telecommunications registrations; providing administrative support as needed and handling other duties as assigned by supervisor.

A key responsibility for the first 12-18 months will be to coordinate and oversee the comprehensive redevelopment of the PUC website that includes managing all phases of the project from initial scoping through launch, working closely with external vendors, the state Bureau of Information and Technology, PUC staff, and other key stakeholders. Specific duties involve leading proposal reviews, supporting contract award processes, guiding and monitoring development activities, facilitating communication among partners, coordinating usability and functional testing, ensuring timely issue resolution, and overseeing final implementation to deliver a modern, accessible, and user-focused website.

The position reports to the commission’s executive director.

This position works in a typical office environment in the State Capitol Building in Pierre. This salaried position reports to the Executive Director. Normal working hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.

- 5:00 p.m. Occasional early mornings, evenings, or weekends may be necessary for event support or critical deadlines.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

A bachelor’s degree in business administration, information systems, communications, or a related field and a minimum of two years of experience in administrative operational support is preferred.

Knowledge of
  • IT infrastructure, tools, and services sufficient to facilitate clear communication among BIT representatives, IT vendors, and PUC staff, and to support the development and management of applications, including PUC websites.
  • Microsoft Office 365, with proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and related software applications.
Additional Information

Travel and overnights are occasionally required to attend meetings, conferences, and other events. A valid driver’s license is required.

This position is exempt from the Civil Service Act.

This position is eligible for Veterans’ Preference per ARSD 55:10:02:08.
