Job DescriptionThe South Dakota Department of Transportation Winner Area Office is looking for an eager and capable individual to support our mission to provide 'Better Lives through Better Transportation.'
By joining our team, you will become part of that larger purpose to maintain and build our state's transportation system for all South Dakotans and those who travel through our state. The Winner Area Office is looking for a motivated individual to help us fulfill this mission.
The Winner Area oversees over 1100 miles of roads and many bridges including 120 miles of Interstate 90. We have work in a variety of capacities from asphalt paving, concrete paving, bridge construction and much more.
We have opportunities for you to work independently and in a team setting. We will provide training for the work you will do. The Winner Area provides a great team environment, mentoring, and overall purpose with people that care. Work assignments will allow you to work in a variety of environments from the office to the great outdoors. As a team member, you will also be given safety shirts, a jacket, and other related safety items.
Also, you will be provided a state vehicle for use on the job.
This position performs technical engineering support and construction trade's related work. Duties may include, but are not limited to, inspecting, testing, and sampling of portland cement concrete material, asphalt concrete material and gravel, and soil material; inspecting bridges, box culverts, and pipe culvert installations; performing field surveys; inspecting temporary traffic control through and around work zones; and completing various records and reports.

Knowledge of:
- civil engineering techniques (preferred but not required)
- elementary physical, mechanical, and earth science principles (preferred but not required)
- various types of engineering survey equipment (preferred but not required)
Skill to:
- operate computers and use Microsoft software
- use a calculator and accurately perform basic mathematical functions
Ability to:
