Job Description

This position emphasizes service execution, uptime protection, mean time to repair reduction, and long-term asset performance
. The primary goal is to establish, lead, and enhance an in-house self-perform maintenance program while ensuring the team is equipped, trained, and disciplined to execute maintenance and troubleshooting safely in a mission‑critical environment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee and lead the onsite mechanical facilities technician team dedicated to the maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and service execution for critical cooling and HVAC systems.

  • Act as the direct manager for Mechanical Facilities Technicians, providing day‑to‑day leadership, prioritizing workloads, coaching, performance management, and development.

  • Develop and manage a self-performing maintenance program, covering aspects like planning, training, execution standards, and continual enhancement.

  • Supervise maintenance and service execution for extensive mechanical and cooling infrastructure like chillers, CRAH/CRAC units, pumps, cooling towers, heat exchangers, and piping systems, including their control interfaces.

  • Manage vendors and contractors while enforcing SLAs, workmanship standards, response expectations, and safe practices.

  • Monitor system health, equipment reliability, energy performance, and maintenance effectiveness to enhance uptime and minimize repeat failures.

  • Spearhead mechanical safety programs, regulatory compliance, and technician training concerning maintenance execution and safe work practices.

  • Support incident response, service restoration, capacity changes, maintenance planning, and post‑event reviews to fortify reliability and execution rigor.

  • Collaboration with Facility Managers, Engineering, Reliability, Controls, Construction, and Commissioning teams to ensure smooth handoffs and operational readiness.

  • Drive processes of continuous improvement including maintenance procedures, technician capability, and service response standards.

  • Ensure the site is prepared for 24/7 operations by properly staffing, training, and planning maintenance efficiently.

Ideal Candidate Profile
  • 3‑5+ years of experience in HVAC, mechanical service, or critical facilities maintenance, ideally in uptime‑critical environments such as data centers, healthcare, or industrial plants.

  • 1‑3+ years of experience in leadership roles involving technicians or service teams.

  • A strong hands‑on understanding of substantial cooling systems, HVAC operations, controls interfaces, and energy‑performance considerations.

  • Experience managing maintenance, vendor performance, technician development, and incident response effectively.

  • A degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC technology, or facilities management is preferred; relevant technical experience is also valued.

Skills and Competencies
  • Strong service leadership in high‑availability environments.

  • Demonstrated ability to enhance maintenance quality and service reliability.

  • Effective people leadership with a focus on technician development and accountability.

  • Excellent communication skills to coordinate effectively across teams.

  • Strong operational judgment and prioritization skills under time constraints.

Preferred Skills / Certifications
  • Experience with mission‑critical cooling infrastructure including chillers, CRAH/CRAC systems, and mechanical distribution systems.

  • Familiarity with BMS/controls integration and service coordination.

  • Experience with preventive maintenance, predictive maintenance, and service KPI tracking.

  • EPA Section 608 Certification preferred for refrigerant‑handling responsibilities.

  • HVAC trade license or similar certifications preferred.

  • OEM or manufacturer certifications related to cooling systems or critical mechanical equipment are a plus.

  • OSHA 30 training is preferred.

Physical Demands / Work Environment

This role requires regular physical activity and readiness for 24/7 operations. Tasks may include walking, bending, kneeling, climbing stairs, and lifting or moving objects weighing up to 39 pounds independently, or participating in group lifts for heavier loads. Safe execution of duties is essential.
