STGi is currently seeking a Phlebotomist to provide services at our Community Based Outpatient Clinic (CBOC).
Responsibilities- Perform a full range of phlebotomy duties including venipuncture and finger-stick procedures, set-up and completion of special test-related phlebotomy procedures, and ensure proper specimen accessioning, collection, processing, and distribution.
- Conduct patient in-processing prior to specimen collection, review accompanying paperwork, and provide cordial guidance and assistance.
- Assemble equipment (tourniquet, needles, disposable containers, gauze, cotton, alcohol) on the work tray according to test requirements.
- Verify or record patient identity, communicate to alleviate fear, conduct interviews, take vital signs, and draw/test blood samples to screen donors at the blood bank.
- If applicable, provide technical oversight and training to ensure invasive procedures are performed safely, sanitary, and efficiently with minimal patient discomfort.
- Perform phlebotomy-related administrative/clerical duties at the Front Desk of the lab; document samples per SOPs; maintain supply inventory and cleanliness of the front desk and phlebotomy area.
- Provide non-phlebotomy administrative/clerical support in various clinic areas as needed (front desk, exam rooms, Telehealth, etc.).
- Instruct on patient-centered specimen collection (e.g., 24-hour urine, occult blood testing, semen analysis) and explain laboratory requirements for specimens (fasting, special diets, etc.).
- Demonstrate knowledge of age-specific techniques to obtain specimens from infants and the elderly, if applicable, and recognize reactions such as syncope, vomiting, or unconsciousness; counsel patients on post-phlebotomy care.
- Provide general clerical/administrative support coordination for the unit and perform other related duties as required.
- Prefer two (2) years of current clinical phlebotomy experience in a similar environment within the last three years.
- Current certification and registration as a Phlebotomy Technician from the ASCP (PBT-ASCP) or AMT (RPT-AMT) is preferred but not required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology to understand and communicate test requests and results.
- Knowledge of patient reactions (e.g., syncope, vomiting, unconsciousness) and procedures for such instances.
- Strong diplomatic communication skills and experience handling difficult customer situations.
- Detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task.
- CPR/BLS certification from the American Heart Association (AHA) or Military Training Network (MTN) retained.
Physical Requirements
- Moderate physical activity; ability to handle objects up to 25 pounds and stand/walk more than four hours per day.
- Typical interior/office work environment.
- Ability to respond to medical emergencies within the clinic as needed.
