The Division of Insurance protects the public by providing assistance, fair regulation, and promoting a healthy, competitive market. This role is part of a team-focused environment focused on market oversight.

What you will do

As a Market Data Analyst, you will plan and oversee the Division’s market analytics program, emphasizing data‑driven regulatory oversight. Your responsibilities will include analyzing insurer practices related to claims handling, underwriting, marketing, sales, producer conduct, and consumer complaint resolution. You will support market conduct investigations and examinations, evaluate insurer practices, and leverage advanced data analysis to identify trends, risks, and emerging compliance issues.

You will develop analytical frameworks, improve data quality and reporting processes, integrate technology to enhance regulatory oversight efficiency and accuracy, build reporting models, and apply statistical inference, causal analysis, and geographical analysis. Collaboration will occur with internal stakeholders and external partners such as NAIC work groups and multi‑state exam teams.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, statistics, data science, finance, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience using data analytics, statistical tools, or business intelligence platforms.
  • Strong analytical, investigative, and problem‑solving skills; ability to translate data into meaningful reporting.
Knowledge
  • Statistical tools such as Python, R, SAS, SQL, and advanced Excel functions.
  • Business intelligence tools (Power BI, Tableau, Thought Spot, GIS, or similar tools).
  • MS Word, Excel, Adobe, and other related software programs.
Ability
  • Integrate analytics into investigative scoping and prioritization, using risk indicators and quantitative analysis.
  • Assess compliance with state laws; identify deficiencies and quantify impacts using data‑supported reasoning.
  • Prepare reports or internal memos, ensuring findings are backed by clear data evidence.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, including legal, enforcement, consumer services, and IT/data specialists to advance analytics across Division functions.
  • Produce dashboards, performance metrics, and analytics briefs for leadership, legislative inquiries, and policy planning.
