Role Overview

As the Shooting Sports Complex Education and Operations Specialist, you’ll have a pivotal role in managing and maintaining this premier firearms range facility. With 400 acres of land dedicated to the complex, there’s ample space to cater to a wide range of shooting enthusiasts, from hunters to recreational shooters to law enforcement personnel.

The complex is organized into two separate areas, north and south, and offers versatility and options for shooters of all levels. Whether individuals are looking for basic target practice or specialized training spaces for law enforcement, the complex aims to provide top‑notch facilities.

Responsibilities

Identify, develop, organize, and teach shooting sports and outdoors related training and education programs. Oversee day‑to‑day operations of the complex, ensuring that the facilities are well‑maintained, safe, and conducive to a positive experience for all visitors.

Assist with hosting shooting sports events, coordinating tournaments, competitions, training workshops, and other events to attract participants and showcase the complex’s capabilities.

Engage with shooting enthusiasts, foster community connections, and contribute to the growth and reputation of the South Dakota Shooting Sport Complex as a premier destination for shooting sports in the Midwest.

Qualifications

This is a Full‑Time position with Game Fish & Parks. The role requires education and administrative duties in an office setting, as well as directing employees, managing events, and overseeing projects in an outdoor setting with extreme temperatures.

Licenses and Certifications
  • Driver’s license; may require CPR and/or other medical response training.
  • Range Officer / Range Safety Officer Certifications.
  • Certified instructor for various firearms and outdoor education programs.
Ideal Candidate Will Have Communication

Daily direction and oversight of education and training as well as routine contact with the public. Must handle differences, obstacles, and tough conversations with staff, the public, and community members.
