The Oahe Downstream Recreation Area park district is made up of multiple park areas in Stanley, Sully and Hughes counties in central SD. Major park areas include:
The Oahe Downstream Recreation Area – a beautiful park located below the Oahe dam at the headwaters of Lake Sharpe. The area boasts a large campground with 205 electrical campsites, 8 camping cabins, 4 modern cabins and other lodging facilities. The recreation area also offers numerous amenities: boat ramps, a gun range, archery range, off‑highway vehicle area, 18 basket disc golf course and other park facilities.
The Spring Creek Recreation Area – a diverse recreation area that offers modern lodging, full service 55‑slip marina, restaurant and c‑store on Lake Oahe. The Cow Creek Recreation Area – moderate‑sized camping destination with world‑class fishing. The park offers 46 campsites, some with a group camping aspect, 4 camping cabins and a very busy boat ramp. The Okobojo Point Recreation Area – a beautiful, peaceful, first‑come‑first‑serve camping destination with a group camping aspect.
The area boasts 18 campsites that can accommodate multiple camping units and offers a unique camping experience. In addition, this technician also oversees a number of public water access areas on Lake Oahe that offer boat ramps, docks, fish‑cleaning facilities and some primitive camping.
The District Park Maintenance Technician will direct and/or oversee the work of a team of seasonal employees, on‑site volunteers, and DOC inmate Trustees. The technician will contribute to an annual work plan for maintenance, operations, and conservation of the parks’ natural resources including long‑range capital development projects; maintain park facilities at maximum efficiency; perform administrative tasks to meet customer needs and expectations;
and provide public and staff safety.
An applicant familiar with park environments or an active park user would be beneficial. Successful applicants must be able to supervise women trustee labor used for janitorial services within the district. The District Park Technician works in a district shop compound, assigns work to others, and performs physical work outdoors in all types of weather conditions.

Licenses and Certifications- Valid Driver's License is required.
- Pesticide applicator permit issued by the SDDANR will be required and successful applicant must be able to pass certification within 6 months of hire.
- Although a CDL license is NOT required, it would be considered highly beneficial.
The successful candidate for the Park Maintenance Technician must have knowledge of equipment, facility and grounds maintenance, a working knowledge of local parks and park guidelines, and must be able to communicate effectively with park guests & staff. The right candidate must be able to organize the assigned work crew and be capable of operating a variety of large and small equipment.
The Park Maintenance Technician is directly supervised by the Spring Creek Park Manager; the team leader will be the Spring Creek Assistant Park Manager, who shares day‑to‑day work assignments and provides daily oversight.
