South Dakota Game, Fish and Parks is hiring an Equipment Shop Foreman to manage maintenance and repair, coordinate receipt and disposal of wheeled vehicles and industrial and construction equipment, and oversee shop and storeroom facilities and inventories.
Responsibilities- Manage maintenance and repair of vehicle and equipment fleet.
- Coordinate receipt, storage, usage, and disposal of wheeled vehicles, industrial and construction equipment.
- Ensure high‑quality, cost‑effective performance of vehicles and equipment.
- Maintain shop and storeroom facilities, including inventory of tools, parts, and supplies.
- Plan and organize work activities, prioritize tasks, and meet schedules and deadlines.
- Develop work procedures, supervise and coordinate skilled and unskilled employees, and delegate assignments effectively.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine effective corrective actions.
- Operate heavy equipment as required.
- Valid driver’s license required.
- Must obtain a valid commercial driver’s license (CDL) with Class A, tanker endorsement, N endorsement, and no transmission restrictions within 120 days of hire.
- Must have a Class A CDL with a manual transmission and no restrictions to operate truck‑tractor/semi‑trailer vehicles.
- Knowledge of personnel management and supervisory practices.
- Fiscal management procedures to prepare a shop operating budget and authorize expenditure.
- Standard practices, methods, tools, and equipment of the automotive mechanics trade.
- Principles of internal combustion engines, drive trains, gear boxes, hydraulic and electrical systems.
- Automotive computer technology, diagnostics, and repair methods.
- Occupational hazards and safety precautions of the mechanics trade.
- State and federal guidelines governing safe handling and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Department policies and procedures.
- Effectively plan and organize work activities and prioritize tasks to meet schedules and deadlines.
- Develop procedures and determine logical flow of work.
- Prepare budget estimates, maintain records, and prepare reports.
- Plan, supervise, and coordinate work of skilled and unskilled employees.
- Delegate assignments appropriately.
- Communicate explicit expectations and standards of performance to subordinates and follow up to evaluate work performed.
- Diagnose equipment malfunctions and determine most effective corrective actions.
- Operate heavy equipment.
