Position DescriptionWe are seeking a Construction Technician who will develop skills in construction inspection, asphalt paving, concrete paving, grading, bridge construction, and related activities. The role involves both independent and team work in office and field settings. Mentoring opportunities are available to support skill development.
Responsibilities- Provide technical engineering support and perform construction trades-related tasks.
- Inspect portland cement concrete paving and plant operations; collect and test concrete samples.
- Inspect asphalt paving; monitor grading operations; collect and test aggregate and soil samples.
- Inspect pipe materials and installation; monitor erosion and sediment control; inspect structures and materials.
- Set up and collect survey data; inspect temporary traffic control around work zones; complete records and reports.
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions and around traffic, heavy equipment, rugged terrain, and water bodies.
- Occasionally travel to attend training courses and meetings as needed.
Typically a 40-hour workweek, Monday through Friday; hours may vary during construction activity, including overtime and some weekends. Overnight travel may be required for training.

- Position requires all licenses and certifications within the first year of employment; training provided by SDDOT.
- Certification in one or more materials testing areas (asphalt, concrete, gravel) and one or more inspection areas.
- A valid driver’s license; additional certifications may be required based on job responsibilities.
- Ability to maintain required certifications for continued employment.
