Adult Education ESL Instructor
The Adult Education ESL instructor is responsible for providing educational and assessment programs to the general public, adult students, and/or employees. This position is governed by state and federal laws and agency/institution policy.
Responsibilities- Provide education and training in academic areas as specified in approved lesson/training plans focusing on reading, writing, listening, and speaking.
- Represent the program in the community, identify resources and potential partners, and advocate for the program.
- Prepare specialized lesson plans, training plans, and curriculum as needed.
- Create or modify teaching materials and learning aids for students with special needs.
- Maintain documentation of classes (course outlines, curriculum, attendance, and other related information); produce complete, accurate, and legible records.
- Communicate effectively and clearly with students from diverse backgrounds and demonstrate a strong sense of customer service principles.
- Enter student records and manage student information in the state adult education Management Information System.
- Monitor student attendance carefully and follow the attendance policy.
- Participate in program recruitment and retention activities, in-service training, and staff meetings.
- Complete training required or sponsored by the Arkansas Department of Workforce Services, Division of Adult Education, and by NWACC, performed each semester as scheduled by the sponsoring agency.
- Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.
- Knowledge of the organization and administration of various higher education academic and social programs.
- Knowledge of campus and community resources.
- Knowledge of state, federal, and campus rules, regulations, and requirements related to campus academic and social programs.
- Ability to coordinate the activities of campus academic and/or social programs.
- Ability to evaluate collected information and formulate recommendations.
- Ability to compile information into report form.
- Frequently: manipulate items with fingers, including keyboarding; sit; stand; walk.
- Constantly: hear; perform repetitive motion; talk.
- Require close visual acuity for tasks such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, extensive reading, and visual inspection at close distances.
- Work environment: moderate noise level.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree.
- Arkansas teaching certificate required.
Rate of pay: $25 per hour
