Position Overview

The Elementary Special Education Teacher at West Fork Elementary School is a dedicated professional responsible for the academic, social, and emotional development of students with diverse learning needs. This role focuses on the implementation of specialized instruction within the framework of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Arkansas state law. The teacher serves as the primary advocate for students on their caseload, ensuring that each child receives a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Instructional Planning:
    Developing and executing lesson plans that align with the Arkansas Academic Standards while incorporating the specific modifications and accommodations outlined in each student's Individualized Education Program (IEP).
  • IEP Leadership:
    Serving as the Case Manager for a designated group of students, which involves drafting IEPs, chairing annual review meetings, and maintaining precise progress monitoring data.
  • Behavioral Intervention:
    Conducting Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs) and implementing Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) to support students with emotional or behavioral challenges.
  • Collaborative Consultation:
    Partnering with general education teachers to facilitate "push-in" support and ensuring that classroom teachers understand their legal obligations regarding student accommodations.
  • Compliance & Documentation:
    Utilizing digital platforms to record services, track goals, and meet all state and federal reporting deadlines.
Professional Requirements and Qualifications
  • Licensure: A valid Arkansas Teaching License with a Special Education K-12 endorsement.
  • Science of Reading:
    Documentation of proficiency in the Science of Reading, as required by the Arkansas Right to Read Act.
  • Clearances:
    Current and clear background checks through the Arkansas State Police, the FBI, and the Child Maltreatment Central Registry.
  • Technical

    Skills:

    Proficiency in Google Workspace for Education and specialized special education management software.
