Campus Ministry Associate - Bowie State (Undergrad Ministry)

Work Location:

Maryland. Job Type: Part time. To advance the mission and purpose of Inter Varsity, this position will focus on learning and preparing for the full responsibilities of a Campus Staff Minister. The Campus Ministry Associate will be assigned work based on skills determined by the application process. This is a one or two-year position in which the individual receives intensive training and exercises ministerial functions consistent with a Campus Staff Minister.

Responsibilities
  • Personal Spiritual Duties: be a maturing disciple of Jesus Christ; practice daily spiritual disciplines; pursue spiritual relationships and involvement in a worshipping community; continue learning and growth in spiritual understanding, biblical knowledge, ministry experience and skills; experience and live out an ongoing call to ministry service with Inter Varsity and its mission.
  • Ministry Leadership: participate and be fully engaged in the ministry team to cast spiritual vision and direction, contribute to the accomplishment of the team’s plans for spiritual growth and transformation, and provide area leadership in specific areas.
  • Teach students to love, study and apply Scripture to their lives; learn about and assist in leading in ministry to students and faculty on campus; promote and press forward the Mission on campus; seek opportunities to proclaim and demonstrate the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
  • Learn to guide chapters (or assigned segments of a chapter) in the development of strategic thinking regarding witness to the university; model and assist students and faculty in growing in their love for God's people of every ethnicity and culture; help to develop student and/or faculty ministry leadership teams.
  • Encourage a prayerful lifestyle in students and faculty, especially focusing on those who do not yet follow Jesus as Lord and Savior; engage positively with the supervision you receive from your staff ministry director.
  • Pastoral Care and Support: assist as assigned and based on skill level; provide pastoral care and support for student and/or leadership teams and individual students and faculty; provide training, resources and opportunities for spiritual development; recruit students and/or faculty and provide specific leadership for conferences and projects.
  • Administration: perform necessary administrative tasks, comply with Inter Varsity policies and procedures, risk management policies, budgeting and expense reporting guidelines; lead students in filing annual chapter affiliation; fulfill area and regional reporting requirements and national reporting requirements.
  • Ministry Partner Development and Public Relations: serve as an ambassador of Inter Varsity to ministry partners and churches; carry out fund development and public relations tasks; maintain expenses within allocated budgets; secure personal financial support; develop and implement a 30‑day plan for raising personal budget; cultivate and maintain supportive relationships with alumni.
Qualifications
  • Annually affirm Inter Varsity’s Statement of Agreement, code of conduct, and theological papers.
  • Abide by Inter Varsity’s Human Sexuality Theological Paper and Women in Ministry Statement of Affiliation.
  • Exploring calling to Inter Varsity and its mission.
  • Bachelor’s degree required for non‑enrolled candidates assigned to four‑year campuses;
    Associate’s degree required for non‑enrolled candidates assigned to two‑year campuses.
  • Prior experience with Inter Varsity or other campus ministry preferred.
  • Willingness to receive training to become a Campus Staff Minister.
  • Ability to contribute to an open and supportive relationship with ministry team members.
  • Prior experience teaching spiritual and biblical principles, planning ministry programs, and spiritually discipling others.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated problem‑solving skills.
Compensation and Benefits
  • Pay Range: $35,088.00 – $46,776.00 per year (adjusted for fundraising success). Compensation will vary based on ability to secure a donor team.
