Position Summary

The Watson Chapel School District (WCSD) seeks a highly qualified, student‑centered Elementary Assistant Principal to support the Principal as an instructional leader and help achieve high levels of student achievement through effective implementation of curriculum, instruction, assessment, school culture, and operations. The assistant principal will play a key role in daily building operations, student discipline, staff supervision, and the implementation of district initiatives.

Job Functions Instructional Leadership (Primary Responsibilities)
  • Assist the Principal in improving teaching and learning in every classroom.
  • Support implementation of a guaranteed and viable curriculum aligned to the Arkansas Academic Standards.
  • Support implementation of district‑adopted curriculum.
  • Assist with the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of curriculum, instruction, and assessment practices.
  • Conduct classroom observations and walkthroughs, providing actionable feedback and coaching to teachers.
  • Support Professional Learning Communities (PLCs) and collaborative teacher teams focused on student achievement.
  • Use multiple data sources (formative, summative, diagnostic, and behavioral data) to assist teachers in improving instructional practices and student outcomes; assist in overseeing intervention systems (RTI/MTSS).
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Principal or Superintendent.
School Culture, Climate, and Student Support
  • Assist in establishing and sustaining a positive, inclusive, and academically focused school culture.
  • Administer student discipline in a fair, consistent, and restorative manner.
  • Support behavior systems and monitor implementation.
  • Monitor student attendance, behavior, and engagement.
  • Oversee daily student supervision, including arrival, dismissal, lunch, recess, and transitions.
  • Support crisis response procedures and student safety protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal student support requirements, including FINS petitions, documentation, and court proceedings as needed.
  • Support student registration, scheduling, and academic placement processes.
Personnel Leadership and Professional Growth
  • Assist in supervising, supporting, and evaluating certified and classified staff in accordance with district policy and state regulations.
  • Provide coaching and support for instructional improvement.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating professional learning aligned to school and district goals.
  • Participate in recruitment, interviewing, reference checks, and hiring processes.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement among staff.
  • Model professionalism, accountability, and collaborative leadership.
  • Support new teacher mentoring and induction processes.
Operations, Safety, and Compliance
  • Assist with the development and management of the master schedule.
  • Support campus safety and security planning in collaboration with district leadership and law enforcement partners.
  • Assist with supervision of state and federal program compliance at the building level.
  • Review purchase requests and monitor assigned budget areas.
  • Maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation as required.
  • Ensure compliance with district policies, Arkansas Department of Education regulations, and applicable laws.
  • Assist with the supervision of extracurricular activities and school events.
Family and Community Engagement
  • Communicate effectively with students, parents, and staff regarding student support and school operations.
  • Assist in resolving parent concerns in a professional and timely manner.
  • Participate in school and community events.
  • Support strong school‑home partnerships to enhance student success.
