Job Duties
- Plan and deliver engaging and innovative math lessons that strengthen students’ mathematical understanding and college readiness.
- Provide instruction in Algebra and additional high school mathematics topics including Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, functions, equations, graphing, and problem-solving strategies.
- Reinforce key mathematical concepts such as linear equations, quadratic equations, systems of equations, functions, ratios, proportions, and mathematical reasoning.
- Incorporate interactive and fun instructional strategies such as math games, collaborative problem-solving activities, real‑world applications, and technology-based learning tools.
- Develop lesson plans and classroom activities that promote critical thinking, problem‑solving, and student engagement.
- Support students in building confidence in mathematics and reducing math anxiety through supportive instruction.
- Provide practice and preparation related to college readiness and standardized testing concepts (ACT/SAT math skills).
- Assess student progress through assignments, quizzes, group activities, and participation.
- Provide constructive feedback to help students strengthen their mathematical understanding.
- Maintain a structured and supportive classroom environment that encourages participation and collaboration.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance and academic progress.
- Collaborate with TRIO Upward Bound staff to support students’ academic success and program goals.
- Participate in staff meetings and program activities as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Secondary Education, or a related field required.
- Current state certification to teach high school mathematics required.
- Experience teaching Algebra and other high school math subjects preferred.
- Strong instructional and classroom management skills.
- Ability to develop creative, engaging, and student‑centered lessons.
- Excellent communication and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to work effectively with diverse student populations, including first‑generation and underrepresented students.
