Position: In-School Suspension Paraprofessional

In-School Suspension (ISS) Paraprofessional

Manages the daily operations of the ISS classroom, enforcing rules and supervising students. Provides a structured environment, helps students complete academic assignments, and guides students through behavioral reflection.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma or equivalent plus one of the following qualifications:
Complete at least two (2) years of study at an accredited institution of higher education (equal to 60 semester hours) or complete and pass the PRAXIS
Meet a rigorous standard of quality and demonstrate, through a formal state or local academic assessment
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading, writing, and mathematics
Knowledge of, and the ability to assist in, instructing reading readiness, writing readiness, and mathematics readiness, as appropriate
Desire to assist students in a learning environment
Emotional maturity and stability necessary for the specialized work involved
General clerical skills
Computer data entry experience preferred

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provides instructional, vocational, and developmental assistance to students with differentiated learning styles while serving in school suspension during the regular school day

Assists with the learning activities given to students by the teacher

Maintains accurate and complete records of students' activities and behaviors, which may require the use of a computer to enter student data, complete forms, schedules, and reports

Responds to requests for crisis intervention under the direction of certified personnel

Assists students who need help learning a particular concept

Prepare and organize educational material, handouts, and other resources for lessons under the direction of the teacher

Demonstrates ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students in the school environment and the community

Participates in in-service training programs as approved

Performs other duties assigned by the Supervisor
