Federal Study Student - Studio Tech

Job Description

The Art department is seeking a Federal Work Study student for a 20‑hour per week position during the Fall 2026 & Spring 2027 terms. Duties include assisting in the upkeep of all studio and gallery spaces.

• Assist in mixing clay and glazes.
• Help students with studio chores.
• Maintain equipment (kilns, pug mill, tools).
• Assist in firing processes, including loading, unloading, and preparing materials such as kiln wash and pit‑firing wood.
• Prepare the studio for the beginning and end of each semester.

• Assist instructors with prep and maintenance tasks in studio classrooms, including maintaining visual props, cutting paper, organizing tools, and preparing for semester starts and ends.

• Keep the lab and accessories in order.
• Help with studio preparation throughout the semester.

• Help instructors with maintenance tasks, organizing found objects and sculpture materials, and prepping class materials.

• Assist with installation and removal of exhibits.
• Assist in gallery maintenance and monitoring.
• Assist instructors with documentation and cataloguing of visual references and records.

$11.00 per hour

• Completed the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
• Interest in working within the art department.
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Willing to get dirty.
• Work authorization that does not require future visa sponsorship (e.g., H1‑B, F‑1 (CPT/OPT), TN).

• Stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms.
• Climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.
• Talk or hear, taste or smell.
• Physical exertion: lifting up to 50 pounds; tasks may involve up to 10, 25, 50, 100, or more pounds as needed.

Position will be subject to a pre‑employment criminal and sex‑offender registry background check. Additional financial, credit, or background checks may be required. Sealed or legally erased convictions and dismissed misdemeanors are not automatically disqualifying.
