DescriptionPosition Summary:
The Substitute Teacher is a part-time, as-needed position responsible for providing care and supervision to children ages 18 months to 5 years when regular staff members are absent. This position may require short-notice call-ins and does not have a guaranteed or regular schedule. The Substitute Teacher supports classroom routines, activities, and learning experiences while maintaining a safe, nurturing environment in accordance with state licensing and CLASS requirements.
Additional duties may include assisting with front desk and kitchen operations as needed.
Responsibilities:
- Provide active supervision and care for children, ensuring their safety and well-being.
- Assist classroom teachers with daily routines, learning activities, transitions, meals, toileting, and classroom organization.
- Support administrative duties as needed, including greeting families, answering phones, and assisting with basic center operations.
- Assist with kitchen duties as needed, including meal and snack service, cleaning, and maintaining food safety and sanitation standards.
- Perform other duties deemed necessary by the Director
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to prepare, present, and review oral and written information.
- Ability to assist the teacher in implementing developmentally appropriate lesson plans and activities for young children.
- Demonstrated computer skills, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office, e-mail, and database management.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work with a diverse student population.
- Ability to work cooperatively with teachers and other center staff
- Ability to assist with basic administrative duties and kitchen duties as needed.
- Ability to quickly adapt to different classrooms, routines, and age groups
- Ability to work independently and make appropriate decisions when regular staff are absent.
Minimum Requirements:
- High school diploma or GED required.
Preferred Requirements:
- Two years of experience working with children aged 6 weeks to 5 years in a childcare setting or a CDA
OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, UPON REVIEW OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
