position summary
the part-time athletic trainer is responsible for assisting with the prevention, evaluation, treatment, and rehabilitation of athletic injuries for student-athletes participating in the college’s athletic programs. This position provides medical coverage for practices and competitions while promoting the health, safety, and wellness of all student-athletes.
work schedulethis is a part-time position with flexible hours based on team schedules, including evenings, weekends, and occasional travel. Compensation is based on qualifications and experience. This description is consistent with common collegiate athletic trainer responsibilities used by njcaa and community college athletic departments
essential duties and responsibilities- provide athletic training coverage for assigned team practices, games, and events
- evaluate athletic injuries and implement appropriate treatment and rehabilitation plans
- administer first aid and emergency care during athletic activities
- apply preventative taping, wrapping, bracing, and other injury prevention techniques
- maintain accurate medical records, injury reports, and treatment documentation in compliance with hippa and ferpa guidelines.
- communicate effectively with coaches, physicians, athletes, and athletic department staff regarding injury status and return-to-play protocols
- assist with scheduling physicals and coordinating medical referrals when necessary
- maintain athletic training equipment, supplies, and treatment areas
- ensure compliance with institutional, conference, and governing body regulations including njcaa guidelines
- assist in implementing emergency action plans for athletic venues
- support student-athlete wellness and injury prevention education programs
- attend department meetings and professional development activities as required
- perform other duties as assigned by the athletic director
- ability to stand for extended periods of time
- ability to lift and carry athletic training equipment and coolers up to 50 pounds
- ability to respond quickly in emergency situations
- bachelor’s degree in athletic training, sports medicine, or related field required;
- master’s degree preferred
- current certification through the board of certification (boc) required
- current state licensure or eligibility for licensure required
- cpr, aed, and first aid certification required
- previous experience working with collegiate or high school athletics preferred
- strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- ability to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel as needed
other job-related education and/or experience may be substituted for all or part of these basic requirements, except for certification or licensure requirements, upon approval of the qualifications review committee.
