Clinical Consultant II – Enabling Technologies

At Medtronic, the Clinical Consultant II provides clinical, technical and product knowledge support to existing and potential customers. The role builds and maintains solid customer relationships, delivers customer training at all levels, and produces key customer reports to support Medtronic Neurosurgery/Navigation/Robotic Assisted Surgery products and services.

Responsibilities
  • Coordinate, support and collaborate with NRCs and other Surgical Synergy team members for on‑site installations with customers.
  • Represent Medtronic during technology‑enabled procedures to provide technical assistance.
  • Maintain system hardware and software to maximize performance; install software and hardware upgrades and perform preventive maintenance.
  • Provide telephone clinical support, use UNIX/Linux commands to modify operating files, and fulfill software and service contract obligations.
  • Act as the primary Medtronic customer liaison for repair and technical support issues.
  • Provide timely information to the district team regarding customer concerns, issues and market opportunities.
  • Submit weekly site visit and customer contact reports for service improvement.
  • Educate and train physicians and hospital personnel – OR, Radiology, Central Sterile Processing, Biomedical and Information Technology – on technical matters related to technology‑enabled procedures.
  • Provide clinical resources for surgeons, clinicians and other trainees; update customers on tips, shortcuts and suggestions.
  • Participate in in‑house sponsored customer training at designated sites for internal and external partners.
  • Train hospital staff to conduct training for their personnel (train‑the‑trainer) and continually train members of the Surgical Synergy Clinical Support team.
  • Work and collaborate with NRCs, Spinal Sales, and Neurosurgery Representatives to identify prospective new users for navigation and robotics functions.
  • Attend and participate in sales meetings, training programs, conventions, and trade shows as directed; submit reports and provide information.
  • Support more complex, new image‑guided products and applications to physicians and hospital staff.
  • Work with the Surgical Synergy Region Manager and Clinical Support Manager to prioritize customer technical support and service expectations.
  • Provide input on new product development based on in‑field experience.
  • Maintain documentation for new or existing installations and adhere to company policies.
Qualifications
  • High‑school diploma or GED with a minimum of 6 years of clinical, medical sales or medical imaging/navigation/robotics experience;
  • Associate’s degree with a minimum of 4 years of the same experience; or
  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 2 years of the same experience.
  • RT and/or MRI certification (nice to have).
  • Prior experience with Image Guided Systems and operating‑room MRI experience (nice to have).
Physical & Travel Requirements
  • Must provide universal precautions to minimize exposure to infectious disease and radiation.
  • Require availability for scheduled and unscheduled clinical events, including weekends, evenings, nights and occasional overnight travel within or outside the assigned district.
  • Capable of working efficiently and autonomously with little direction when outside of clinical events.
  • Attend national meetings, district meetings and other training as requested.
  • Wear a 7–9 lb protective lead apron for extended periods in the operating room.
  • Lift up to 40 lb and sit, stand, walk for 8+ hours per day.
  • Bend, stoop, squat and balance frequently; possess close, distance and depth‑perception vision and ability to adjust focus in relation to operating a personal computer.
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license and active vehicle insurance; driving approximately 25% of the time within the assigned territory, with overnight travel possible.
