Summary

This position will provide Safety leadership and strategic direction by leading the plant's Safety continuous improvement efforts. As an integral member of the Plant Management Team, this position will support and advise site management with regard to the Safety Management system.

Responsibilities
  • Proactive Safety Strategy:
    Formulate a proactive local safety strategy that drives the plant to become sustainable, healthy, and safe operationally.
  • Vision for Safety:
    Participate in developing a vision for safety which includes continual enhancement of established programs and consistent implementation of new programs within a team environment.
  • Safety Health and Medical Issues:
    Be involved in the effort to eliminate, prevent, or reduce the occurrence of safety, health, and medical issues.
  • Safety Culture:
    Facilitate the development and maintenance of behaviors, attitudes, and a safety culture that supports the goals, behaviors, and actions of Tyson Foods. Act as a change agent to accelerate best practice sharing within the facility.
  • Safety Programs:
    Direct the safety programs for the site; recommend the design and implementation of new programs to minimize company losses due to accidents; measure the effectiveness of programs.
  • Compliance:
    Lead the compliance with OSHA regulations and OSHA Tyson Foods Ergonomic program; inspect machinery, equipment, and working conditions to ensure compliance with OSHA; maintain OSHA file and support documents.
  • Inspections:
    Accompany OSHA inspector on plant inspections; regularly inspect and review plant operations to assure compliance of all permits, operation, and equipment with state and federal regulations; report any potential violations and recommend corrections as needed.
  • Accident Analysis:
    Analyze accident statistics to establish necessary precautions and changes needed for plant safety; communicate safety policy and procedure changes to management personnel.
  • Policy Review:
    Ensure that all health and safety policies, procedures, and practices are reviewed on an annual basis or as changes and updates are required by practices or regulation and are rolled out in a timely manner.
  • Safety Inspections and Audits:
    Conduct safety inspections and procedural audits in the field and have the skills, knowledge, and ability to take immediate corrective action if required.
  • Training:
    Review all safety areas to review policies, determine causes, identify corrective actions, and conduct training in areas such as ergonomics, emergency response team, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, and personal protective equipment.
  • Incident Investigation:
    Investigate all safety-related incidents, review incident reports, and complete necessary reports for insurance carrier, risk management system, and corporate safety office.
Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Management, Engineering, or Industrial Technology, or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience:

    3 plus years of progressive experience in environment, safety, and sustainability management preferred.
  • Knowledge:
    Strong knowledge of safety regulations, OSHA hazard communications, accident investigation, and safety training methods; knowledge of industry best practices regarding safety and environmental approaches with PSM/RMP safety practices.
  • Computer

    Skills:

    Standard computer skills.
  • Communication

    Skills:

    Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Special

    Skills:

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write.
