Summary of Job Duties
Vice Chancellor for Institutional Advancement – chief fundraising officer and senior advancement strategist responsible for comprehensive direction, execution, and evaluation of all development and alumni engagement functions.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Fundraising Leadership- Develop and implement a multi‑year strategic fundraising plan aligned with institutional priorities.
- Manage a portfolio of high‑capacity major gift prospects and donors, providing cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
- Oversee all aspects of the giving pipeline: annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, corporate & foundation relations, and capital campaigns.
- Collaborate with institutional leaders to develop compelling cases for support and fundraising priorities.
- Engage directly in donor cultivation and solicitation, modeling best practices and reinforcing a high‑performance, team‑oriented culture.
- Ensure strategies are aligned with measurable outcomes such as increased student retention, degree completion, and institutional ROI.
- Lead and strengthen the Office of Alumni Affairs to build lifelong relationships through communications, events, affinity groups, homecoming, and volunteer engagement.
- Develop segmented engagement strategies connecting alumni across generations, majors, industries, and regions.
- Expand alumni participation in mentorship, career support, student recruitment, and annual giving.
- Build institutional readiness for comprehensive fundraising campaigns by developing infrastructure, donor pipeline, volunteer leadership, and internal systems.
- Establish campaign goals, timelines, marketing materials, and leverage data analytics and donor segmentation tools.
- Monitor campaign progress and report regularly to the Chancellor and Executive Cabinet.
- Establish stewardship program to recognize, retain, and deepen donor relationships.
- Ensure timely, personalized gift acknowledgment and reporting aligned with donor intent.
- Use data visualization and AI‑enhanced platforms for impact reports and donor communications.
- Demonstrate productive corporate, foundation, and business relationships, expanding philanthropic investment.
- Develop partnerships to support scholarships, research, internships, workforce development, and academic programs.
- Write or contribute to grant proposals in collaboration with academic units or Sponsored Programs.
- Build external networks with employers, philanthropic organizations, and civic groups aligned with strategic goals.
- Serve as key strategist for Foundation‑initiated proposals and joint funding ventures.
- Recruit, mentor, and manage a high‑performing advancement team with expertise in donor relations, data analytics, alumni affairs, and campaign planning.
- Implement professional development framework, succession planning, and career pathways.
- Oversee budgeting, CRM systems, gift processing, prospect research, and reporting.
- Adopt AI‑informed tools and digital engagement platforms to automate communications and improve conversion rates.
- Establish KPIs, performance benchmarks, and assessment tools to track progress.
- Foster culture of innovation and continuous improvement via data analytics.
- Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited four‑year institution.
- Minimum five years of progressive advancement leadership experience, preferably at a four‑year institution.
- Record of securing and closing six‑ and seven‑figure major gifts with sustained stewardship and campaign leadership.
- Evidence of fundraising supporting student success with measurable improvements in retention, persistence, and 4‑year degree completion.
- Experience managing fundraising teams and cross‑functional operations.
- Exceptional communication, collaboration, and interpersonal leadership skills.
- Advanced degree from a regionally accredited four‑year institution.
- Advancement experience at a public four‑year institution, preferably a public land‑grant or research‑focused institution.
