Position Summary

The Lead Certified Nursing Assistant (Lead CNA) is responsible for providing compassionate, high-quality care to residents while serving as a leader and mentor to the CNA team. This position assists with daily workflow, ensures resident care is delivered according to care plans, and promotes a safe, respectful, and positive environment for residents, families, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide direct personal care, including bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance.
  • Monitor residents' physical and emotional well-being and promptly report changes to the licensed nurse.
  • Lead and support CNAs during assigned shifts by answering questions, assigning tasks, and ensuring quality care.
  • Assist with training, mentoring, and orienting new CNAs.
  • Ensure timely completion of resident care and documentation.
  • Promote infection prevention and follow all safety protocols.
  • Assist residents with activities of daily living (ADLs) while maintaining dignity and independence.
  • Take and record vital signs, weights, intake/output, and other observations as directed.
  • Respond promptly to resident call lights and emergencies.
  • Encourage teamwork and maintain effective communication with nurses, therapists, physicians, residents, and families.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and facility policies.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment.
  • Participate in shift reports, care conferences, and quality improvement activities as requested.
Qualifications
  • Current Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) certification in the applicable state.
  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum of 1–2 years of long-term care or skilled nursing experience preferred.
  • Previous leadership or charge CNA experience preferred.
  • Current CPR certification (if required by facility).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong leadership and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of resident rights and person-centered care.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Compassion, patience, and professionalism when working with elderly residents.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to lift, transfer, reposition, and assist residents using proper body mechanics and lifting equipment.
  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting up to 50 pounds (or more with assistance).
  • Ability to work flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed.
