Position Overview

The Quality Engineer executes and supports the day-to-day quality assurance and quality control functions for Hanwha Defense USA’s Munitions business unit at the Hanwha Munitions Campus. Reporting to the Director of Quality, this role performs inspection, testing, and process verification activities; supports the design and application of Acceptance Inspection Equipment (AIE) and Automated Acceptance Inspection Equipment (AAIE); and helps build and maintain the quality management system as the site scales toward full production.

This position works closely with manufacturing, engineering, program management, and supply chain to identify and resolve quality issues, support root-cause analysis and corrective action, and maintain compliance with customer, DoD, and industry quality requirements.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform and document in-process, receiving, and final inspections in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications, and MIL-STD-1916 sampling requirements.
  • Support the design, application, and qualification of Acceptance Inspection Equipment (AIE) and Automated Acceptance Inspection Equipment (AAIE) for Critical, Major, and Minor characteristics.
  • Identify, document, and disposition nonconforming material through the Material Review Board (MRB) process, including corrective and preventive action follow-up.
  • Support First Article Test (FAT) and Production Qualification Test (PQT) activities, including test planning, data collection, and results documentation.
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of quality management system (QMS) procedures, work instructions, and inspection records in support of ISO 9001, AS9100, and DoD quality requirements.
  • Support supplier quality activities, including source inspection, incoming material verification, and Supplier Corrective Action Request (SCAR) follow-up.
  • Maintain calibration status and traceability of inspection, measuring, and test equipment in accordance with site metrology requirements.
  • Collect, track, and report quality data and key performance indicators (KPIs), including scrap, rework, escapes, and inspection yield.
  • Support internal audits and prepare documentation for customer, DCMA, and third-party audits and inspections.
  • Participate in root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities using Lean and root-cause problem-solving tools.
  • Maintain document control and record-keeping in accordance with company procedures and applicable CUI handling requirements.
Qualifications
  • 2-5 years of experience in quality engineering, quality assurance, or manufacturing quality within defense, munitions, energetics, aerospace, or a related regulated industry.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, DoD quality standards, MIL-STD-1916, and FAT/SAT processes.
  • Familiarity with the design or application of Acceptance Inspection Equipment (AIE) and Automated Acceptance Inspection Equipment (AAIE) preferred.
  • Experience with inspection planning, gauging, and measurement systems; GD&T knowledge preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Lean principles and root-cause problem-solving tools (5-Why, fishbone, corrective action).
  • Experience supporting or participating in a Material Review Board (MRB) or nonconforming material process.
  • Familiarity with calibration and metrology program requirements (ISO/IEC 17025 a plus).
  • Experience collecting, tracking, and reporting quality data and KPIs.
