Responsible for processing mail, Western Union orders, utility bills, cashing checks, selling money orders, and collecting dry cleaning orders for customers, while maintaining a positive company image by providing courteous, friendly, and efficient customer service.

Reporting Relations

Accountable to and reports to District Store Director, Store Manager, Assistant Managers of Store Operations, Perishables, and Health Wellness Home. Positions that report to you:

Primary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide prompt, efficient, and friendly customer service by exhibiting caring, concern and patience in all customer interactions and treating customers as the most important people in the store.
  • Smile and greet customers in a friendly manner, whether in your department or elsewhere in the store.
  • Make an effort to learn customers’ names and address them by name whenever possible.
  • Assist customers by escorting them to products, securing out-of-reach items, loading/unloading heavy items, passing along customer suggestions or requests, and performing other tasks to enhance the shopping experience.
  • Answer the telephone promptly and provide friendly, helpful service to customers who call.
  • Work with co-workers as a team to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant work environment.
  • Weigh postal packages, run mail through meters, process certified, express, UPS, registered, and insured mail.
  • Process Western Union orders and sell money orders.
  • Cash payroll, personal, ADC, and social security checks.
  • Sell hunting and fishing licenses.
  • Break down and put money in utility drawers; sign on postal department and register; process paid outs.
  • Send faxes for customers and count days’ coupons.
  • Process refunds for customers and department-approved refunds.
  • Utilize the intercom system for paging, etc., using appropriate procedures.
  • Remove trash in a timely manner.
  • Adhere to strict personal hygiene and dress guidelines, and company policies, and report to work on time.
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
  • Sign on and off lottery machines.
  • Assist customers with dry cleaning where applicable.
  • Assist customers at the registers when necessary.
  • Sell and redeem lottery tickets.
  • Process bottle refunds.
  • Assist in other store areas as needed.
  • Perform other job-related duties and special projects as required.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Worker Characteristics
  • Solve practical problems involving a variety of variables with limited standardization.
  • Interpret instructions accurately.
  • Perform arithmetic calculations involving fractions, decimals, and percentages.
  • File, post, and mail materials.
  • Copy data from one record to another.
  • Interview to obtain basic information.
  • Guide people and provide basic direction.
Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent, with over six months up to one year of similar or related work experience.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds frequently.
  • Visual requirements include clarity of vision at distances less than 20 inches and more than 20 feet, with or without correction, depth perception, color vision, and field of vision.
  • Physical activities necessary: stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, standing, walking, talking, and hearing.
Working Conditions

Continuously exposed to dirt and noise in a fast-paced and high-pressure environment.

Equipment Used to Perform Job
  • Fax, telephone, equipment in the postal area, lottery and money order machines, Western Union equipment, computer, cash register, intercom.
Contacts

Daily contact with customers, weekly contact with suppliers/vendors, and monthly contact with federal/state government or regulatory agencies.
