Position Summary
The HVAC Specialist provides HVAC services with a specific responsibility to identify repair and/or replacement needs, installs, maintains, and upgrades HVAC systems and equipment, and assists other skilled trades in the Physical Plant.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Responsible for the maintenance and repair of heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment; performs inspections on boilers, air compressors, heat decks, chillers, air dampers and pumps; checks control gauges for proper temperature and pressure; observes operations and makes adjustments as necessary; checks motors, controls, switches, wiring valves, condensers and cores for operation; checks seals for leaks and corrosion; disassembles structural components when problems arise.
- Installs, services and repairs heating, cooling, and refrigerating systems according to blueprints and engineering specifications using knowledge of heating, refrigeration, structural layout and function and design of components.
- Performs general duties: changes filters in air outlets and cleans casings; performs preventative maintenance inspections and repairs; prepares reports showing date of inspection, repairs made, and cost of material; maintains complex set of tools; inventories supplies and notifies supervisor of material needed; cleans and maintains work area; calibrates thermostats.
- Coordinates with assigned supervisor and/or other trades for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Diagnoses causes of problems and/or failures in heating/air conditioning systems and determines repair and/or replacement needs.
- Responds to emergency situations during or after hours.
- Participates in meetings, workshops, training seminars, as assigned, to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
- Maintains vehicle, tools and equipment to ensure availability in safe operating condition.
- Other duties as assigned.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, go up and down stairs, operate foot and hand controls, use a telephone and write. Occasionally, the employee must lift and/or move up to forty (40) or more pounds. This position requires accurate perception of sound, near and far vision, depth perception, handling and working with educational materials and/or objects, and providing oral information.
Must have the ability to work for the duration of the daily contracted time period and to be physically present and at the assigned work area. Additional technical skills, knowledge, and abilities may be recommended by the immediate supervisor.

Education and Experience
- Must have a high school diploma or GED.
- Must have EPA G08 Certificates Types I, II, III and/or Universal or the ability to obtain one.
- Knowledge of safety precautions used in the HVAC trade.
- Knowledge of state laws regarding HVAC practices.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, manuals and management texts.
- Skilled in the use, operation and care of HVAC tools and machinery.
- Minimum of two (2) years commercial HVAC experience.
- Must have a valid Arkansas Driver’s License.
- Must have a Boiler Operator’s License.
- This position is considered essential personnel if needed for snow, ice, or any campus emergency.
Education and Experience
Current HVAC license.
License(s) & Certifications- Boiler Operator’s License
- EPA G08 Certificates Types I, II, III and/or Universal
- Arkansas Driver’s License
