Essential Job Functions
The Mechanic is responsible for inspecting, diagnosing, repairing, and performing preventative maintenance on police vehicles and related equipment to ensure the department’s fleet remains safe, reliable, and mission‑ready. The Mechanic performs maintenance on police vehicles, including oil changes, lubrication, tire rotations, and field operations, diagnoses and repairs vehicles using computerized diagnostics, and maintains accurate maintenance, repair, and inspection records for all vehicles.
The Mechanic repairs and replaces engines, transmissions, brakes, steering, suspension, electrical systems, HVAC systems, and exhaust systems, orders and maintains inventory of parts, tools, fluids, and shop supplies, and performs all other assigned duties.
High school diploma or GED; minimum of three (3) years of experience as an automotive or fleet mechanic preferred. Valid driver’s license is required.
