Job SummaryUnder general supervision, this position focuses on learning the management of a small driver count and/or non‑traditional shifts (including nights and weekends). Responsibilities include ensuring safe and timely freight movement, load assignment, compliance with DOT regulations, and providing best‑in‑class customer service.
Key Responsibilities- Build and maintain positive professional relationships with drivers and reliable outside carriers to ensure seamless carrier set‑up and minimize turnover.
- Fill in for absent personnel and complete special projects related to fleet optimization and profitability.
- Utilize personnel management skills, including training and orientation of drivers and employees, both internally and with third‑party (customer) systems.
- Maximize fleet efficiency and profitability, making recommendations for continuous improvement, measuring KPIs, and creating, maintaining, and presenting customer‑specific reporting and financial analysis.
- Manage inventory, assets, customer pools, and driver assignments to balance equipment in market.
- Perform administrative duties such as payroll, Net‑Revenue budget management, driver counseling, accident reviews, filing, pay issue resolution, P&L analysis, invoicing, and operational or financial reporting.
- Manage the yard: inspect equipment, replace parts (e.g., mud flaps), schedule preventive maintenance, and coordinate repairs.
- Resolve service, routing, mechanical, and accessorial pay issues with drivers, customers, and company personnel on a daily basis and when on call.
- Maintain the company’s safety culture, including daily driver safety messages, monthly safety briefings, quarterly training, annual reviews, and enforcement of DOT compliance.
- Assign loads, plan routes, and monitor freight movement to provide safe, on‑time service, manage exceptions, and adjust driver ETA as needed.
- Minimum:
High School Diploma/GED and up to 4 years of equivalent education, experience, and training; or enrolled and working toward a degree program with up to 2 years of equivalent experience; or Bachelor’s degree with ability to work cross‑shift (including nights/weekends). - Preferred:
Bachelor’s degree plus 1 year of relevant experience or equivalent education, experience, and training. - Travel is required to account, customer, and company event locations when applicable.
- Skills and Abilities:
Conflict recognition and resolution, analytical decision making, adaptability, relationship building with clients, vendors, and peers, client/driver service excellence, effective communication, and problem resolution.
Starting pay range: $43,800.00 – $65,700.00. Additional factors such as skills, education, experience, geography, and qualifications influence the starting salary.
Eligibility for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes, per company plans.
