The Nursing Adjunct Clinical Instructor must be a registered professional nurse who, under the direction of the course coordinator, is responsible for guiding the students' learning experiences to achieve the objectives of the course of study. Adjunct clinical faculty will guide and direct the learning experiences of students through knowledge, skills, and motivation. Members of the faculty agree to be accessible to students, other faculty, staff, and those making inquiries to the College.

Essential functions include demonstrating commitment to students' achievement of curriculum objectives and outcomes, remaining up to date on discipline specific technology and instructional technologies, establishing and maintaining a positive working relationship with students, faculty, and staff, developing professional relationships and showing courtesy and respect while working with faculty and students, discouraging any form of harassment, bullying, and/or abrasive behavior directed at colleagues, students, and campus visitors, maintaining skill proficiency and assuming responsibility for instruction of determined clinical and skill lab content utilizing current best practice, evaluating written assignments of students according to outlined criteria, preparing written clinical orientation materials for students, orienting students to the clinical setting, selecting patient assignments in conjunction with current or previously learned course concepts, evaluating student performance in clinical setting in accordance with program policies and practices, maintaining an accurate record of clinical experiences for assigned students in accordance with program policies, conducting pre- and post-assignment conferences and clinical conferences, holding a final evaluative conference with each assigned student to discuss prepared summative evaluation of clinical performance, maintaining appropriate course records (attendance sheets, student clinical record, skills checklist, etc.),

submitting all college reports in a timely manner, maintaining professional boundaries to include not stepping outside the role of clinical faculty and functioning within the scope of an adjunct faculty member at assigned clinical facility, completing clinical hours as designated by course coordinator and clinical facility, attending departmental and college meetings as scheduled, responding professionally and effectively to emails from students, colleagues, Department Chairs, Deans, VPs, and President in a timely and professional fashion, participating in the implementation and evaluation of the educational program, advancing the college's mission and Core Values of respect, opportunity, helpfulness, integrity, and excellence, and other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate and/or necessary by the Dean or Department Chair.

Qualifications include an unrestricted RN license to practice in NC, holding a BSN degree (MSN preferred) in the discipline from an accredited institution, teaching experience, particularly in a nursing program, preferred, preparation in teaching and learning principles for adult education, including curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation that is appropriate to assignment, 2 years of medical/surgical experience preferred, a strong commitment to the mission of community colleges, excellent written and oral communication skills, an appreciation of the value of collegiality, and current professional liability insurance at $1,000,000/$3,000,000 (attach copy of proof of insurance required).
