Position: Public Safety Corporal (Non Sworn)

Overview

A corporal serves as an experienced officer who performs all the duties of a Public Safety Officer but also takes on supervisory tasks occasionally.

Responsibilities
  • Uses appropriate problem-solving approach to plan services.
  • A. Evaluates situations, intervenes appropriately when required and adequately performs job specific services
  • B. Responds expeditiously to all emergencies
  • C. Collects, documents, and safely secures lost and found items
  • D. Collects, documents, and safely secures patient valuables
  • E. Makes decisions based upon reason
  • F. Reviews reports, interprets data
  • G. Works in conjunction with related departments (emergency), and nursing management in the lockdown process, including initiation and lifting of the lockdown
  • H. Acts as incident lead with ongoing security incidents upon arrival, including requesting additional resources and actions as needed
  • I. Assist in developing short- and long-term security initiatives to further progress the department and promote a safe environment for all
  • J. Creates and develops shift level safety and security related goals and identifies areas for improvement
  • K. Continuously evaluates departmental policies to identify opportunities based on real time data
  • L. Assist with initial camera footage request, assuring they are received by management
  • M. Assist with initial access control request
  • N. Assist with other related security department processes as identified by management
  • 2. Provides services with consideration of the recipient’s needs:
  • A. Responds to the needs of patients, visitors and staff members when assistance is needed.
  • B. Assists and controls visitors as required.
  • C. Answers maintenance calls when required.
  • D. Escorts employees and visitors to their cars as requested.
  • E. Delivers mail and makes bank deposits.
  • F. Responds in person for security service calls and to all emergency situations during assigned shift.
  • G. Assists w/patient restraints.
  • H. Investigates and reports on all theft and vandalism.
  • I. Reports illegally parked vehicles.
  • 3. Uses equipment and supplies correctly.
  • A. Operates and maintains two-way radios in a professional manner using appropriate language and proper codes (MRH).
  • B. Correctly uses and monitors Guard1

    Wand System (MRH and Hoke).
  • C. Correctly utilizes and maintains all department vehicles.
  • D. Monitors CVT equipment and reports repairs needed immediately.
  • 4. Uses appropriate safety and infection control measure.
  • A. Understands and complies with hospital infection control / safety rules.
  • B. Tours hospital, grounds, parking lots, and all outbuildings checking for leaks, fire, strange noises, unlocked doors, trespassers, and suspicious individuals/activities.
  • 5. Teaches/directs/advises/informs others in an appropriate manner.
  • A. Advises public safety agencies which come on-site of departmental and organization policies
  • B. Attends departmental meetings regularly and contributes information, concerns, suggestions, etc. to enhance the department.
  • C. Directs work of security staff and handles all situations in a professional manner
  • D. Responsible for all staffing aspects of assigned shift
  • E. Performs all personnel evaluations for assigned shift
  • F. Assist in hiring processes for new staff and subsequent onboarding
  • G. Maintain professional working relationships with related department staff and managers
  • H. Assist in developing and overseeing field training processes
  • I. Ensures all security officer duties are performed in an efficient and professional manner
  • J. Act as liaison with local law enforcement and other related entities during security incidents or other related matters
  • 6. Reports/records information appropriately.
  • A. Prepares handwritten reports, required documents, and completes all shift duties.
  • B. Conducts and/or ensures minimum rounding is completed at facility
  • C. Conducts shift briefing reports and disseminates information to the oncoming shift and management as necessary
  • D. Notifies management of serious security incidents and other related matters
  • E. Develops and analyzes departmental activity reports to identify opportunities in security resource deployment and duties at the shift level
